Blog - French blog launched!

Hey gang!

Just a little quickie.
So you know.

What's the best way to start up the year with?!
I've just launched yet another web page.
This time it's another blog, in French s'il vous plait this time around.

It's called Tugudu and can be found at the following url:
http://tugudu.blogspot.com/
Why "tugudu"? It just came up like that, no reason. ('doesn't mean anything)

I already had an old blog in French I kinda lost track of but let's not talk about that... (I only use it to play with html and stuff these days ..)

This blog will mostly have random comic strips and stuff that come to my mind, so you know you won't be missing much if you don't parlez Français.

And that is all!
Take care!

- Eyz

It's 2012!

Happy New Year Everyone!

ComicPageOfTheWeekend: Aw Yeah, New 52!

DC Comics fans were trying to understand the ways continuity in the rebooted universe "New 52" worked and who was that mysterious purple hooded figure for so long... it was about time we got some answers.

Well, not "answers" answers, but at last some recognition, even coming from the high quality fun title Tiny Titans.
Enjoy all we can, guys, DC announced the book will end early next year.

(Click for bigger pic)

So...joke or no joke, does this mean Ambush Bug's taken the role of Johnny DC, "continuity cop", under the reboot?
(wooah! they're following a plotline left open by a previous Ambush Bug comic??)

The BROst office jumps

If I hear one more person tell me that "the Post Office jumps are like way hella gnarly and they're the biggest steepest gnarliest jumps ever" I will accelerate their death.

They are steep. Congratulations. I'm mailing out your medal tomorrow, it should be down there early next week. Congratulations, mountain biking has one set of steep jumps in the whole world.

Yes, it's cool that they are dug by mountain bikers. Yes they look like fun to ride. Yes, you are good at riding your bikes. But, if you have everyone in the world come dig there and you have access to machinery, guess what? No, I'm not blown away by your "core" scene. This just in, you've had the same six hips for five years. Oh, you stacked them slightly taller and steeper every year? Great. Again, your medal is in the mail.

Besides, if you've had the same played out hips at your trails for five years and you've only made slight changes and made them slightly taller, but you still take tons of photographs and video of them and expect people to be excited about your minimal progress, you're not the first person to do that. There's already a blog about a set of jumps just like that.

Your jumps are not the biggest or scariest jumps ever. Consult the above picture of the post office. Then find me an angle where the jump pictured below looks mellow:

As for the biggest ever, you have 12 jumps on a small tract of land on a slight incline with a roll-in of finite height. That finite height is roughly nine feet tall. BREAKING NEWS: your nine foot roll in is going to be a limiting factor in your candidacy for the SICKEST JUMPS EVER award.

And another thing. Brandon Semenuk's cork 7's at ham and steeze were sick. So was Mike Montgomery's stupid huge huck transfer to almost flat. Actually your jumps look like a lot of fun. That said, if I see another winter time edit of random people "flowing" through the post office at sunset getting "steezy" and showing what the "no dig no ride" scene is all about at "the office" I will do exactly the same thing I always do: not watch. Consider yourself warned.

To all the bro'd out locals at the post office that think they're the only people in the entire world who have ever built a jump: You're from California. You suck.

To all the bike tourists who come back from the post office and tell me how amazing they are: You may or may not be from California. You suck.

To anyone still doing whatever this trick is called: If you're not from California you probably wish you were. You suck.

Paul if you don't hit them while you're in Santa Cruz you suck.

Trail rules

classic pinkbike: "Probably a noob question, but why are there bmx only spots?"

Riding someone else's trail spot is a sacred privilege. You must ask permission. Plan on being told no, or just having the digger pretend like he has no idea what you're talking about. Do not bring firends. Do not bring cameras. Don't mention it to your friends or family. Do not post about your "sick sesh" on facebook. Do not blog about them. Never tell anyone where they are, and lie about what city and state they're in. You do not skid. You do not case. If you have to hurt yourself to avoid skidding, don't skid. Before you even think about riding, water everything. If you have to walk two miles to get water, walk two miles to get water. Never walk on lips. Never walk on landings. Don't speak to the trail builders or their friends until spoken to. Probably don't even make eye contact. Apologize for everything all the time, and ask what you can work on while they ride. Plan on spending at least an hour not talking and shoveling some other project while the builders and their friends ride, drink, don't help you, and generally enjoy themselves. It's about respect; they deserve yours, and you deserve none. They build with dirt, and you are less than dirt. You are nothing. Maybe if you come and help dig and show up for every dig session for two years they'll address you as a peer. Probably not. If you break these rules you will be yelled at, made fun of, shunned, banished, shot, stabbed, buried alive, or have your tires slit.

The reason BMXers hate mountain bikers is because mountain bikers do not understand these simple, obvious truths.

Nothing much to go with, but it seems this promises us co-op/2 players/Tails playable at least.

Dragon Ball: Episode of Bardock - Recap!

So I finally managed to watch that new Dragon Ball Z "TV Special" short movie produced recently produced by Toei for this year's Jump Festa.

How was it? Well, I honestly found it rather pleasant, a nice surprise from something I wasn't expecting much to be honest.
[Warning! Might contain slight spoilers!]
First of all, lemme just start by saying I wasn't expecting much from this.
Announced as a ~20 minutes anime adaptation of a fan doujin by Naho Ooishi, not even Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama, produced as a tie-in for some obscure Japanese exclusive arcade game.
It looked cheap and simple.
Unlike 2008's original Dragon Ball special, backgrounds looked more simplistic, there was less characters around/animated/voiced, simpler plot....

But Dragon Ball Z: Episode of Bardock's special turned out pretty nice in the end.
The art style Toei took is closer to Toriyama than Ooishi's.
The fights were well choreographed and if the story was pretty paper-thin, it was nice just for this once to get some all-new Dragon Ball material, featuring such different and original content.

Freezer (Frieza as you Americans put it) was pretty creepy in the little instance we saw of him, the "end" of Bardock, Goku's father, was well rendered and the plot continued from that point didn't really ruin the original OVA's ending to me.
Oh, and the new baddie Chilled was a pretty nice addition to Dragon Ball's universe!
He had a pretty neat design all around.

It was quite short so it didn't really go anywhere, but it was a fun story in the end.

Now, to the question Otakus/Nerds all around the world are raging about... Is this "canon" or not?
Well, I guess isn't that clear and even at Toei they wouldn't care less about this question.
I mean if you count this, or any of the anime's original fillers (Son Goku and Picollo learning to drive a car..), or the OVAs (Cooler,..) or even the anime's original continuation Dragon Ball GT is really up to you in the end.. as long as it doesn't detract from the Toriyama's original manga.
You can decide to ignore any of these or accept all of them. It's up to your "nerdiness" to decide what's ok or not, all these are official produced materials.

I find it funny how Bardock becomes the legendary Super Saiyajin in this movie (being the first to gain that form chronologically), creates that legend in the past and fullfils it as well.
Though it turns later Super Saiyajins "not legendaries" (and ignores Broly or renders him "normal").

And I also like the fact it leaves on an open note, leaving many questions to be answered.
(was he the first Saiyain? would he form planet Vegeta as we later know it? did he live on, did he die shortly? what would he do now, living in the past? why didn't he chase the rest of Freezer's family?)

All in all, nice little special.
As M. Ebert would put it "Thumb up!"

The second time we went to Fontana

I can't tell if Patrick is not impressed by Rennie's tire choice or if he's just pissed that we drove to Fontana a second time. Here's a quick breakdown of the fontana course:

The do not kill list

Team Robot will continue to run Shimano parts for 2012, and for that and not sucking Shimano earns their place on the TEAM ROBOT DO NOT KILL LIST.

FACT: Shimano doesn't just buy CNC's and machine tools. When they need to make cranks or hubs or whatever in a new way that no industrial manufacturer has done, they build their own robots. Shimano and Team Robot: building robots to crush your shitty team since a long time ago.

Verg from Shimano Multi-Service/Eddy Merkin/Ulysses S. Grant showed me the mean jeans last night. Party band from Portland. All they sing about is partying. Team Robot says party on.

Also Verg's buddy Metal Mike from Montana showed me Death for the first time. Hit the snowflake button on the youtube video, it's a nice heart warming addition to Death's classic "Zombie Ritual."

Bob asked me if people can lose their place on the DO NOT KILL list. Robots are not slaves to any agreements with humans. We enforce the do not kill list at our leisure. Cory Tepper, you're back in the kill pile for listening to lil wayne.

Nice try but robots have 3 inch thick steel armor, Cory. The only good that shotgun will do is to help you scoop your brains out of your skull before the metal robot claws can do it for you.

The most exciting person in the world

NO REALLY THIS VIDEO IS THE MOST EXCITING INTERVIEW YOU'LL SEE ALL YEAR. HOLY SHIT.

Greg Minnaar, definitely on the kill list.

FROM HIM:
Whats up with the shock? $100/ Why? I work at a shop in NYC and rebuild front and rear suspension on a regular basis. Please tell me what needs to be done with the O2-RCX. How many rides and drops did it see? Do you have the bottom mounting hardware. I am friends with a couple of those X-fusion guys, so I will send the shock out if needed. Yes, I am interested. Thank you.

MY REPLY TO HIM:

Dear Friend,
The shock, my 02-RCX, is an inadimate object this makes it tough to know exactly whats up with the shock. The shock is $100 because it is priced to sell. I cant imagine how much fun it is to live in NYC and to be able to rebuild both front and rear suspension--lucky!
To answer your question, "what needs to be done to the 02-RCX" I would say whatever you like.
Though the shock has eyelets it does not have eyes. Therefore, im not certain how to answer your question "how many rides and drops did it see". FYI my manual dexterity is superb, as must be yours since you rebuild front and rear suspension on a regular basis, I have never lost a hold of the shock--resulting in me dropping it.
I do not have the bottom mounting hardware. In all likelihood you would not want said hardware because it mit not fit your frame--I work for NASA and we make our own bikes.
I think it is cool that you are friends with those X-fusion guys. Are we friends? The reason I ask is I went ahead and used "Hello Friend" as the salutation. If this greeting is too informal for Pinkbike I apologize my friend.

Your friend,

Blackmambadhbadboy

Dinicartoons - Jingle Belle animated!

Here's something I planned to post for Christmas..but totally forgot to do so...

Back when Top Cow acquired the rights to Jingle Belle from Paul Dini (which, since then, went on to Image Comics), Dini was quite interested into developing his own brand of cartoon characters, be it in the funny pages or beyond.

Thus were born the Dinicartoons.
For the occasion, a bunch of Jingle Belle "flash" animated shorts were produced for the official website JingleBelle.com and a few of them can still be found on youtube these days.
Here's all three of them you'll be able to watch...

"Jingle Belle in Gloria"

Jingle Belle contributes to the annual choral gathering... much to the dismay of the conductor.

"Jingle Belle in Picture Imperfect"

Parents are paying good money to have their childrens' photos taken with Santa, but Jingle Belle gets into the act.

"Jingle Belle in Santa's Throne"

Jingle helps her dad bring cheer to tiny tots at Christmas.

By now, you've probably gotten I'm a huge Jingle Belle fan^^
I find these shorts pretty fun, if only more had been made/released on youtube...

Anyways, that is all as far as Christmas blog posts will go for this year, I promise. That's enough already.

Jingle Belle is copyright Paul Dini.

CBR Jingle Belle: Naughty and Nice

It's that time of the year again!

And what better book to talk about than Paul Dini's own creation, Jingle Belle!
A book for all ages.

I reviewed this comic for New Readers.. as well, check it out if you want a more in-detail analysis.

Comic title: Jingle Belle: Naughty and Nice

Story by Paul Dini
Art by Stephen DeStefano
Lettered by Sean Konot & Stephen DeStefano
"Little Matchstick Girl" Illustrated & lettered by Barry Caldwell
"Jingle Belle Conquers the Martians" painted by Lawrence Marvit
Chapter one illustration by Bill Morrison
Chapter two illustration by Lynne Naylor

Published by Oni Press
From 1999-2000
Lineup Jingle Belle
Format: Trade paperback collecting Jingle Belle's original stories from 1999 and 2000 (one shot miniseries), a short story from Dini Double Feature #13 and an all-new exclusive color story.

Jingle Belle is an original creation by renowned comic book legend Paul Dini.
A cartoony elf girl Dini created in '99, that has seen various stories published periodically since then every year.
Most of her stories are either one-shot Christmas specials, original graphic novels or like this one, the previous ones collected in trade paperback releases.

"Naughty and Nice" collects her first two years worth of material, where she was defined under the pen of artist Stephen DeStefano.
The other characters weren't as clearly set in stone as Jings', but even so, the outlines were placed which would be explored in other tales.

Jings' is your typical Dini character.
She was designed by Dini, she's just this fun loony girl like you probably seen in cartoons from the 90s (Batman: The Animated Series or Freakazoid).
But what does an adventure of Jingle Belle consist of...?

A long time ago, Santa, yes the Santa Claus, saved the elves leader Queen Mirabelle from the clutches of an evil tyrant named the Blizzard Wizard.
This Saint went on to become a legend across the world, a giver of gifts and the protector of the North Pole.
He eventually married Mirabelle.

1999.
Jingle Belle is the rebellious daughter of Santa Claus.
While her father spends most of the year thinking about the children of the entire world and preparing for that very special night, Jings causes havoc and mischief all around her.

The stories in "Naughty and Nice" are self-contained tales of the mischievous gal.
There's a light sense of continuity in the stories following one another, but anyone can pick up this or any other Jingle Belle story, they aren't meant to be complex or hard to get.

This book is mostly composed of two bigger tales by Dini & DeStefano.
Jingle Belle is a good kid at heart that only wants to have her parent's attention once in a while....which is quite the difficult task when your dad's Santa Claus I presume :P
Meanwhile the Blizzard Wizard is carefully preparing his revenge on Claus....

The TPB also contains various one page-stories here and there, as well as some pin-ups you might expect from a Dini character, including art by various artists such as Evan Dorkin, Alex Ross, Sergio Aragonés, Jill Thompson & Coop!

All stories and Jingle Belle content's usually in black & white.

Finally, there's a bonus color tale, painted by Lawrence Marvit. Which makes a nice bookend story.

Overall, the perfect recommended gift for comic fans and children alike!
It's a very nice ans sweet comic book which I recommend for anyone!

Kids will no doubt like the fun stories that seem pretty self-conscious of traditional Christmas stories. It's just a fun bright book!
Adults will enjoy the cartoony art style and the style very reminiscent of 90s cartoons classics like Animaniacs or Tiny Toons. (which Dini worked on actually)

Jings is one cute and fun leading character. She bounces from one story to another, from one artist to another!

Of course some might not like the fact it is in black & white, but I'm rather fond of this comic strip look of Jingle Belle. It suits the characters. (also, with all the snow around, it's not like colors would have given anything more to the story graphic-wise)

The book also has an introduction by Eddie Gorodetsky (TV writer and producer behind such shows as The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air & Saturday Night Live).

Check it out!
There's also many more Jingle Belle comics to be read, this is as good a starting point as any!

I give it:
  2 / 3 Snoopys!
