Iker Casillas the best goalkeeper in the world


The Spanish champions Cup 2010, Iker Casillas, captain of Real Madrid and the Iberian national team, was elected today as the best goalkeeper in the world by the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS).

In a statement released by the agency noted that Casillas, who won the World Cup with the Spanish team, received 304 points, well above the 124 Julio Cesar, Inter Milan player, second in the standings and 56 Czech's Peter Cech, Chelsea's third.

The list of the 19 best goalkeepers in the year 2010 comprises 12 European, three American, two African, one American and one representative from Oceania.

In the selected group are seven goalies who first appear in this ranking, including Germany's Manuel Neuer (4th), Dutchman Maarten Stekelenburg (5th) and the Uruguayan Fernando Muslera (7th).

This is the third time that Casillas gets the recognition of the IFFHS, involving election experts and journalists from 86 countries from all continents.
