Meet The 2011-2012 National American Miss Princess Bernice Chau

Tiffany: How did you get involved in National American Miss?

Bernice: I was introduced and encouraged by former Florida state titleholder's Elizabeth Tran and Kirsten Perry. 

Tiffany: How did you prepare for the National Pageant?

Bernice: I practiced my introduction in the car and my mom asked me some questions for interview.

Tiffany: What is the best advice you have ever received?

Bernice: Be yourself, stay positive and smile with your heart are the best advices I ever had.

Tiffany: What quote, motto or scripture best descries you? 

Bernice: Her smiles is contagious!

Tiffany:  What are your plans for the future?

Bernice: I want to be a good student and good dancer.  I will be in my first dance competition in March and I hope I will do well.

Tiffany: What activities are you involved in?

Bernice:I am a competitive dancer and member of Teen of Green.

Tiffany: What do you like to do for fun?

Bernice:I like to play with my friends, play video games with Dad, and making accessories (friendship bracelet, hair bows…) with Mom.

Tiffany: What is one item you can’t live without? 

Bernice: I can’t live without my sleeping bear.  I need her when I go to bed.

Tiffany:  Who is your role model?

Bernice: Elizabeth Tran, The 2010 National American Miss Florida Jr.Teen, is my role model because she is smart, kind and beautiful.  Also she is the former of Teen go Green.

Tiffany: What is your favorite TV show? 

Bernice:My favorite TV Show is Good Luck Charlie because it is so funny. I always watch this show with my Mom and we can’t stop laughing once the show starts.

Tiffany: If you had three wishes what would you wish for?

Bernice: I would wish for no gravity, to travel all over the world and to be straight A student.

Tiffany:If you could go anywhere in the world where would you go?

Bernice: I would want  want to visit safari in South Africa and watch all the wild animals and take a lots of pictures.

Tiffany:What is your definition of a NAM girl?

Bernice:NAM girl is kind, smart, true, modern, positive and beautiful…..

Tiffany:If you were stranded on a deserted island what three things could you not live with out?

Bernice:The three things that I must have are water, my DS and my sleeping buddy.

Tiffany:What is your most prized possession?

Bernice: The most prized possession for now is my tablet.  I play games and do my on line homework every day. 

Tiffany:How would your friends describe you? 

Bernice: They would say she is cheerful, charismatic and creative.

Tiffany:How are you making a difference in your community?

Bernice: I work with Teen go Green, and I tell everyone how important we need to learn recycling.

Tiffany: If you could go back in time and be at any historical event what would it be? 

Bernice:I would like to attend the grand opening for Disney World.

     Tiffany:If you could go back in time and meet one person, who would it be and why?

Bernice: I would like to meet Martin Luther King because I did a report about him at school and I got A+.  I really proud of myself and would like to tell him about this.

    

  Tiffany:If you could be famous for something, what would you want to be famous for?

Bernice:I would to be a famous dancer.

    

 Tiffany:What is your favorite book? And why?

Bernice:It was the Foot Book by Dr. Suess.  It was my first book that I could read out loud by myself when I was five.

     

Tiffany:Where is your favorite place to shop?

Bernice:My favorite shops are The Children Place, Justice and H & M.

            

Tiffany:Who or what inspires you most?

Bernice: My Mom and Dad

Tiffany:What have you learned about yourself since competing in pageants?

Bernice: I have learned to work hard to pursue my dream.  Also I need to stay focus and concentrate to accomplish my goal.

     

Tiffany:What advice do you have for future NAM girls?

Bernice:Be yourself and keep smiling!!

     Tiffany:What do you plan to do with your title this year?

Bernice:I will try to involve as much community service as I can and tell everyone about National American Miss.  Also, I will cherish the time with my all sister queens.  I already miss them so much.

   

 Tiffany:Tell me about yourself.

Bernice: I am the only child in my family, and I am a 2^nd grader.  I love to laugh and dance.  My dream is to perform on Broadway.

It's Been a Great Year for the 2010 National American Miss Florida Princess!

Dear Contestants, Family and Friends,

In July 2010, I realized my dreams really could come true, when I was crowned the Miss Florida Princess queen.  “Miracles Happen” played in the background as bubbles slowly drifted down.  I couldn’t believe it was happening to me, as this was my very first pageant and I was living my dream right on the stage!

What a busy year it has been!  I raised money for the charity “Locks of Love”, which I had been involved with since I donated 10” of my hair back in 2008.  I was able to visit their headquarters and learned how they make wigs for children with cancer or alopecia.  I also volunteered by serving breakfast to the homeless and participated in a charity walk against blindness.  The Governor of Florida recognized me for my charitable work and achievements with National American Miss.  And last fall, I rode in a convertible in my hometown parade … what an honor that was!

The highlight of my year was attending the National pageant in Anaheim, California.  I was able to go to Disneyland, Thanksgiving dinner, fun rehearsals and met some wonderful friends along the way!  I also spent some time with my wonderful sister queens.  What a special week it was not only to have my family by my side, but my grandma and two aunts who flew in from Pennsylvania and Arizona.

I am so proud to have had the honor of representing Florida this year and would like to thank Steve and Kathleen Mayes, LaKishia and everyone at National American Miss.  A special thanks goes to my parents, sisters Madison and Sydney, and Grandma and Papa Colombo; without you I wouldn’t have achieved this wonderful dream!

To all the contestants, dream big and believe in yourself.  I hope you have fun and make lots of friends along the way.  To my successor, enjoy your year … I hope it will be as magical as mine!

It's Been A Great Year for The 2010 National American Miss Florida Pre-Teen!

Greetings from Kia Shaw Miss Florida Preteen - National American Miss 2010                                                                                               

Dear Preteen Contestants……….

First I would like to say “WAY TO GO” and congratulations in making it this far to the competition here in Orlando. I know your parents, family, friends and supporters are so very proud of you. I have had the pleasure to meet, work and represent National American Miss (NAM) and I know you will too.  This is a very exciting time of your life, but it is only the beginning for you. There are  lots of hard work and dedication ahead, but it will all pay off with the fun of traveling across the Unite States and meeting new people. Enjoy every day and makes lots of friends and be prepared for an incredible experience.

My experience at NAM was amazing, dazzling and sometimes even a blur. To say that you will have lots of fun, does not even come close to the what’s ahead of you. Be ready for the rehearsals, practices, and an amazing time of your life….It’s your time to shine!  Along with getting prepared for the big opportunity, NAM have a group of wonderful people who always does a great job in making sure there are time set aside for fun and excitement to enjoy with your family and friends. The friendly group of choreographer and photographer are there to capture every precious moment, you will love it!

Although my reign went by so quickly; it still seems like yesterday that my name was called as Miss Florida Preteen - National American Miss 2010. That is one moment in my life that I will never forget. From that point on, I have been very busy and have kept my parents pretty busy too.  My trip to the National Competition in Anaheim California was also very exciting. I captured two National Titles; National Model and National Casual Wear Model. On the trip to Hollywood, we visited the Farmer’s Market, Disneyland, Walk of Fame and so much more; oh my Gosh, what a trip!!! This was an experience and the memories will last a lifetime.

Mr. and Mrs. Steve and Kathleen Mayes has done a phenomenal job; creating a pageant system just for girls like you and me. NAM have helped me to build my confidence, self-esteem and has prepared me for what is yet to come. Because of NAM I have received a proclamation from Congress that was archived in the congressional records for generation to come……how awesome is that!!! I have made appearances and volunteered at several organizations and giving back to my community is such a blessing!

With NAM the sky is the limit. You will experience different cultures, but most of all you will meet and make friendships that will last a life time.  As the new Miss Florida Preteen - National American Miss Titleholder, I know you’ll have a blast working with Miss Dawn Lee Costa and Miss LaKishia Edwards, they are the best!!  I am looking forward to meeting each of you and to offer any assistance you may need. God bless you all, and no matter what, keep reaching for the stars and never give up on your dreams. Good Luck…..

Miss Florida Preteen - National American Miss 2010

It's a Wrap for The 2010 National American Miss Florida!

Hello Everyone,

            This has been a remarkable journey as your 2010 Miss Florida Miss Queen for National American Miss. From the moment I was crowned, I was overjoyed knowing I have a commitment to this organization to follow my dreams and inspire our youth through positive messages.

            Each time I stood on stage, interviewed, or spoke publicly I was able to share my passion as an activist while learning individual’s personal stories. As the Founder and President of an international non-profit organization, Love Letters: Random Cards of Kindness, Inc., I was able to touch the lives of over 80,000 children going through treatments and surgeries. Our mission is to create upbeat homemade cards for kids with life-threatening illnesses.

            Being able to meet other women that carry similar traits like myself at Nationals in Anaheim, California was such a special journey. Smiles and laughter filled the air as we spent time together. I got a taste of the Hollywood treatment as the NAM family rolled out the red carpet and photographers captured our moments through pictures.

            During my reign, I’ve gained strength in knowing who I am and feel fortunate that National American Miss has allowed me to foster this growth. Being apart of the NAM family is such an honor and I’m grateful for their continuous support in my endeavors. To my family and friends, you always stood by my side and provided me with hugs and kisses full of unconditional love. No matter if I’m on stage, reporting in the field, or at a university function you’re always cheering me on. I’m elated to have a “Chana Cheer Squad” who endlessly supports my ambitions.

            To all the girls competing this weekend, you have opened so many doors for your future by learning public speaking, interview skills and gaining confidence. To my successor you have an adventure waiting so hold on because it will be a ride of a lifetime!

A Great Year Comes to a Close for The 2010 National American Miss Florida Jr. Pre Teen!

Wow!  What an amazing year of opportunities I have had since being crowned the Miss Florida Junior Pre Teen.  During my reign, it has been my privilege to work with some wonderful organizations such as Meals on Wheels, Relay for Life,  and Habitat for Humanity.  I also had the honor of participating in the Punta Gorda Christmas parade, sharing my love of NAM with my hometown.

Going to California with my family at Thanksgiving was the highlight of my reign.  Meeting new friends and reuniting with old ones from all over the country was an experience I will never forget.  I was so excited to earn the ever popular Spirit Stick and to be named fourth runner up overall.

To my mom and dad, I can’t begin to tell you how grateful I am for your support and love.  You both have worked hard to help me reach my goals and live out my dreams.  To my brothers, Davis, Dawson and Drew, thank you for sitting through countless hours of competition and for being the loudest and proudest cheering section a girl could ask for. 

It is with great sadness that I say goodbye to the Sunshine State as my family and I relocate to the Windy City of Chicago.  Florida NAM has been a part of my life since I was just four years old and I have made so many great memories and learned valuable life skills.  Thank you to Steve and Kathleen Mayes for providing the experience of a lifetime, for believing in me and encouraging me every step of the way.  You are the best state and national directors and your positive influence means more to me than you can possibly know.

To my successor, congratulations and enjoy your year as the new Miss Florida.  Take advantage of every opportunity and make it a year to remember.  I have had an awesome weekend with all of you fantastic young ladies and it is my hope that National American Miss will become an important part of your life as it has been and will continue to be in mine. Be proud of who you are and use the special talents God has given you to the best of your ability.

Former National American Miss Florida Jr. Pre-Teen Savannah Hudson will Perform at "Bring it for Japan" a UNICEFF Benefit Concert!

The 2010 NAM Miss Florida, Kaitlyn Chana was named a REAL TEEN for Aeropostale!!!

         Kaitlyn Chana was crowned the 2010 NAM Miss Florida and was just named a REAL TEEN , for the popular retail, chain, Aeropstale !! The company did away with the faces of top models and selected 8 male and female regular, everyday teenagers to become the faces of their new ad campaigns. The teenager's hail from all across the country and prove that they are REAL TEEN's - just like the companies buyers. As one of Aeropostales REAL TEENS, Kaitlyn will be one of the faces of all the upcoming Aeropostale media and advertisement.

Savannah Hudson The 2009 National American Miss Florida Jr Preteen Sings and Dances her way into the Spotlight !!!

Savannah Hudson is our beautiful NAM Florida Jr Preteen and is on her way to becoming a top preformer !!! She is talented tween that sings and dances and has a heart of gold! Savannah placed in the top 5 at the national pageant and is representing the great state of Florida with class and style !!! Keep your eyes and ears opened for this amazing preformer !!! I got the inside scoop from Savannah on what it is like to be a NAM girl and a her life as a dance student and great singer!!!

Tiffany:What does your title of National American Miss FL. Jr pre teen mean to you?



Savannah: My title is very important to me, It is something that I have wanted to achieve since I was 7 years old..not just to wear the crown, but to truely make a differance in my community and the world. Since I have been crowned I became a sort of spokesperson for The Forgotten Soldiers and I have rounded up other young people, and together we have sent 100's of care packages all over the world!! It makes me feel great to make a differance:) I am proud to wear the crown of NAM, because it is the BEST system!!!



Tiffany: What do you want to be when you grow up?

Savannah: Currently I am enjoying being a very busy 10 year old, but I am sure that I will do something that involves music and dance!



Tiffany:Tell me about the dance company that you are involved in,and what awards you have won

Savannah:My dance company is a very intense company, we are 7 time National Winners. We travel and compete often I dance between 5 and 7 days a weeek 3 to 4 hours at a time. This past week I was chosen out of hundreds of girls for a scholarship to dance in New York City this summer!!! I was VERY excited!

Tiffany: Where is the coolest place that you have gotten to perform at?

Savannah: The Mirage, in Las Vegas!!!



Tiffany: How has competing in pageants helped you with dance and your vocal performance?

Savannah: Competing at NAM over the past 4 years has helped me grow in so many ways. I have learned so much about stage presence,eye contact, and mostly confidence! I would not be the performer that i am today without the NAM experience.



Tiffany: If you could sing a duet with anybody, who would it be?

Savannah: I thik it would have to be Christina Agulera because she has an AMAZING voice, i like her songs and she is a great performer!! And i think it would be really cool to perform with her!!



Tiffany: What is your favorite style of dance?

Savannah: My favorite style of dance is probably jazz broadway because you can really show off your personality and be different people by dancing.. But i do love ALL styles of dance including ballroom!!!

Tiffany:What is the best advice you have ever recieved?

Savannah: Always be true to yourself and be you truely are!



Tiffany: If you could star in a broadway production what would it be?

Savannah: ANYTHING LOL!!!! I think that my choices are torn between Mama Mia and Hairspray!!



Tiffany: Tell me about youself?

Savannah: Well, i could write a book but i will try to keep it short! I live at home with my mom and dad,my big brother Brandon, and my 17 month old twin sisters,and my grandma. I have 3 dogs (chihuahua) and a hamster! I am a fifth grade honor student as mentioned before I have a very busy schedule! When not dancing and singing I am voluntering with my family and some friends. LIFE IS GOOD! I AM VERY BLESSED!

Circe Burnett, a NAM girl who is running to change the lives of children everywhere !!!

Circe Burnett is NAM girl from Florida, who is making a difference in the lives of our youth !!! Circe not only knows how to take a beautiful picture, I should mention that Circe took home the Most Photogenic award for the state of Florida, she also was a National delegate in the 2009 National All-American Miss Jr Teen Pageant in California. Circe has kicked off her pageant heels and put on her running shoes !! She will be running in a half Marathon next weekend in Miami as part of the ING Miami Marathon weekend-that's 13.1 miles! Last year she ran in this and was top 3 in her age group. She will be wearing orange shoe laces to show her support for an organization called "Run For Something Better" which is a program committed to combatting childhood obesity and changing children's lives through fitness. Congratulations to Circe for tackling such a difficult task for such a worthy cause!!! We are so Proud of Circe and all of her efforts to make a difference in the lives of children !
