Sega just revealed some details about the upcoming Crush 3D, a sequel to a 2007 platformer that was released on the PSP.
First of all, small recap.
In 2007 Zoë Mode developed Crush, a pretty smart and ingenious platformer that perfectly combined a sidescrolling gameplay (in 2D) with a 3D gameworld. It was sort of a puzzle game, a Rubik's cube and a 2D/3D hybrid platform game all rolled up into one.
They're working on a Nintendo 3DS sequel, which will offer "new locations" and "new characters" as the press release implies (and probably the return of some remade levels).
It looks like the first game's main character and the original comic book art direction will be both replaced. The new hero looks kinda...generic, but hey, maybe the plot will be as good as the original!
And the new art style is full of colors (no doubt to play a bit with the 3D), kinda remembers me old Dos sidescroller, or what a modern take on those would look like.
Here's some pics now:
Looks great, it's fun to see a new hero take on the "bathrobe" and how he's gonna explore his own mind in this title. (which was the point and the plot of Crush)
The game's expected for a September 9, 2011 release.
I admit, I kinda miss the first game's amazing comic book-styled art direction and Psychonauts-like vibe...
