Drawings - JAM Session November

Remember those?

I asked you guys and gals for your ideas and suggestions...
And you answered it here!

Here's some ideas I picked up to draw this time around.

:iconclayman8:'s suggestion.

Here's the Deus Ex dude from the 3rd game.

:iconi-love-shadaze:'s suggestion.

One more!
She wanted to see me draw Mighty again:P

:iconshaymus:'s suggestion.

Guybrush from "Tales of Monkey Island"'s not really my favorite, design-wise, but here he is anyway!

:iconzody:'s suggestion.

Alright you asked for Robin and you got Red Robin... but Tim Drake is THE Goddamn' Robin afterall :P
First time drawing his all-new (ugly) costume.

Last drawing for this session!
Thanks for all your ideas and contributions guys. Well, it's 2 AM in the morning here, so that will be all for this time. ~

E3 NEWS! lots MOAR trailers PartIV

(...)
Part 4 of these new videos/announcements/interviews/etc..!!
Now, it's time to check some of my fav news and best looking stuff.
(and by that I really mean "best looking stuff")

Ubisoft sure had a lot of new stuff to show.
Here's some gameplay from the upcoming Rayman Origins!

Woow! *in his best Keanu Reeves impression voice*
It's looking amazing! Well animated, colorful, fun. Like a great cartoon. Or better, like the orignal Rayman!
And it's great to listen to such passionate developers.
It's funny how a year passed, since the previous E3, where they showcased this very same game.
This should be made available on a retail disc as well just for the wait they've put us through.

And Rabbids fans, worry not.
They will also be back in their own title (yay! Rayman is finally truly separated from them!)
In this random party game for Kinect:

Looks like we can call it Raving Rabbids: Alive & Kicking.

Also from Ubi, here's Assassin's Creed: Revelations.

Woah! Ezio! Altair!
Looking great!
And as enigmatic as previous episodes :)
Can't believe this already coming for this November!!!

And another Ubi-sequel:

It's Far Cry 3! Taking place in Africa again it seems.
I would have preferred another completely different setting...like The Arctic Pole or something..
Graphics looks nice however.

Now, something gorgeous, something unique.
It's the 3rd BioShock game!

Looks like more of the same..on a completely different and beautiful setting!
And I wanna say..even better than the past previous 2 games underwater (as much as I loved 'em originally).
Irrational Games is back with 2K Games on this all-new BioShock Infinite.
I'm particularly loving the art style. Simply put, splendid! (cute gal :'3)

Some gameplay from Deus Ex 3 finally!

Eidos is developing for Square Enix this Deus Ex: Human Revolution.
Looks like a richer experience closer to Deus Ex 1 compared to the more nervous action-fuelled simple Deus Ex 2.

And last but not least, Mass Effect 3!

Bioware is aiming this one for the 3/6/2012.

Looking nice, shaping nicely.
Can't wait! :D

More on the E3 later on this week~

NEWS! Some gaming and movie stuff for this week 's end.

Hey guys and gals!
Here's some new news about some epic games, comic movies and something moar.

Warning! This is not live action Hal Jordan!! *phew! thank god!*
First of all some gaming.

Sega & PlatinumGames new colaboration is one of my highly expected titles for this year.
I loved Mad World, my bro loved Bayonetta. What is this team of ex-Capcom employees working on now?
It's called Vanquish, it's aimed for the PS3 & Xbox 360, it's not your usual typical 3rd person shooter like Gears of War (no multiplayer!), it will be a very dynamic crazy stylish game not unlike Capcom's own P.N.03 and it's directed by Resident Evil and Viewtiful Joe director, Shinji Mikami.

Here's the first real trailer (not a teaser like the previous video):

Can't wait to see more about this one!

If you like action games and rpg-ysh/adventur-ous ones as well, you've probably already played or at least heard about Deus Ex 1 or 2, the archetypal model for this generation's Mass Effect or Fallout 3.
There's a brand new trailer for Deus Ex: Human Revolution, coming later this year.
I hope the Square part of Eidos current owner and publisher, Square Enix, won't push this one out to soon nor influence too much it's development.

From this trailer, the game is looking pretty okay and very neat.
Then, it's only a CGi trailer, not much gameplay or real content in here.
Anyway, this looks pretty epic so far!

Now here's a very random one.
I've never been a fan of the concept of both the Guitar hero nor Rock Band games. In fact I haven't tried them ever. And won't ever need to. Period!
Sorry but it isn't my type of game. I would rather prefer a real game with real gameplay, play a real instrument (which I do) or if I really wanna play a music game, something more imaginative like Space Channel, Parappa the Rapper, Samba de Amigo or something alike...

Now, if you like adventure games, you probably know Tim Schafer. And you've probably tried his latest rockin' adventure/action game, Brutal Legend.

How does this all relate to the trailer I'm going to show you below?
The new Guitar Hero game is going to have an adventure mode.
That's right. They made so many Guitar Hero/Rock Band games that to keep people interested in mass buying them each time, they finally have to be creative. How did they work that out? By simply ripping off Brutal Legend! Here's the first announcement trailer to Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock.

I'm not interested in this one out, at all.
Just wanted to show you a trailer for this girst GH game to have a quest mode.
Kinda reminds me of when Mortal Kombat tried adding a Konquest mode, only it turned out fun, fresh and random, not like blatant rip off something else.

Onto the movie side now!

Finally a first look at some Green Lantern movie promo material!
Like the cover you could see at the top of this post for a magazine cover (check the first "movie" view of the Lanterns' ring!)

A teaser poster! The GL logo seems to be taken directly from the comics, which is nice.
The Lantern logo itself looks neat-o with the incorporated ring. Pretty decent picture I'd say, but a bit standard.

More promo. Kinda sad how Wonder Woman was taken out of the big 3 (DC's trinity of Supes, Bats and previously WW).
This will probably run inside some comic issues.
There's a lot of GL stuff alongside the vaste DC comic heroes. Like Golden Age Alan Scott, Guy Gardner, Sinestro and Star Sapphire!
Funny trivia, Aquaman, Flash and WW look like they're ready to have their movie next, being so close to the 3 current best seller ones with the movies around.

Moving on, still on DC Comics.
Geoff Johns, one of my favorite DC writers, currently own the fancy title of Chief Creative Office.
His direct input is taken into account for DC mutlimedia characters and he can make importan decisions on the current adaptations (cartoons, shows, movies, games..).
He just had an interview for Newsrama lately  where he talked about the adaptations he would like to see next.
Not the real movies that are going to be made next, like the always mentioned Wonder Woman or the finally confirmed The Flash.

His favorite picks?
He said he would love to see the current Blue Beetle, Jaime Reyes, being made into a movie.
Or the team Suicide Squad.
And as for non DC prints? He suggested Wildstorm's Sleeper or Vertigo's 100 Bullets being made into movies or tv shows.

Take note that those are "would be" choices, his favorite picks.
He didn't confirm any of those would really be adapted.
I'm just glad the man will be around to help the translations stay true to their source materials.

Finally,
A new Shrek movie came out?! When?! Nobody told me!
It's not like I woulda miss the opportunities to know it, I've been out a lot but didn't see any posters around here, and I've seen a lot of movies but didn't see any trailer (they just keep re-playing that awful A-Team trailer here...).

Shrek versus the Troll doll

Anyway, this Shrek Forever After is apparently out.
I liked, on some level, kinda, the previous 3 Shrek... And I'm absolutely not one to like CGi movies. I usually avoid those. (Yes. I prefer my animation 2D! Deal with it!)

If you live in another dimension or managed to avoid any info or marketing promo for this one before, here's a trailer for it:

Anyway, that's all for the day! Take care~

Music Trivia #01

I like music.
In fact, it's always been a big part of my life. Always having music in the background or spending time listening to music...

I'm not just a "dude who draws stuff" or "who plays games". I'm also a "dude who plays music" since I was ten!~

That's why Music in games or movies is a big part of my appreciation and something I won't ignore or turn off.

Today, on this very hot saturday of almost-summer (how is it on your side? very sunny as well?) I wanted to have a little post on music inspirations & references. Little hommage in compositions, if you will.

First of all, a little fact (this post is all about trivia anyway, didn't you read the title??).
Everybody knows the music from Indiana Jones, right?
The way John Williams wrote and imposed Indiana Jones music as the modern typical adventure epic music.

Here's a little piece, funnier than what the rest of the 3rd movie offers:

Always loved the way this one's composed. If you're a fan of the movie, it's a pretty funny odd moment with Indy & his dad and some Nazi guy.

Now, here's a cutscene music by Teruhiko Nakagawa for  Sonic Rush Adventure:

See the little inspiration?
It's most definitively voluntary done. See Sonic Rush Adventure did had the Adventure part added to this sequel to Sonic Rush, both on the Nintendo DS. The music in cutscenes is a bit more adventure-y to reflect this added epic story mode. In game levels didn't change much from the last game.

Sonic games always had this occidental influence, that's probably way I always liked them over Mario. In fact the whole Sega always had this part-oriental part-occidental influence in both game design and music.
Back to Sonic, it wasn't the first time music was influenced by american movies. Here's a more well known little piece from the Megadrive era:

Does it remind you of anything? If you're a scifi fan such as I and were born before the 2000s you've probably recognised the iconic Blade Runner ending theme:

Sorry for the random video, but it was the only one MGM didn't cut the sound or that I could export!

Non-Sonic music now. Big modern blockbuster gaming series Mass Effect for example is very much influenced music-wise, not by scifi movies but by the very first Action/Shooter/RPG that was Deus Ex.
Since Mass Effect is a big nerd fanfic drawing inspiration by all our cult SciFi icons in games, movies and tv shows, it was only natural to use the musical aspect of Deus Ex which is forever an iconic score for Scifi/RPG/action games. Both uses the same kind of electronic orchestral score but the main similarity is in the main themes.

Here's Deus Ex:

Orchestral version, better for the comparison.

And Mass:

The influence is much more in style and composition than in the melody itself.
Sure, Bioware could have gone orchestral à la Star Wars. But I really like that they went in a Deus Ex musical way much better.

And finally, Prince of Persia (2008).
My favorite PoP alongside the original game by Jordan Mechner.
My first system wasn't a PS2, like most Sands of time fans probably had. I grew up on the original one. Only the 2008 game lived up to my PoP expectactions (but that would be the subject of a future review).
Anyway, the music in this modern Prince of Persia wasn't influenced by the Arabian Nights (through its imaginative universe was) but by Lawrence of Arabia.
Inon Zur & Stuart Chatwood composed an epic score, an amazing orchestral universe pretty dense and rich.
I'm glad the music in this one didn't went typical blockbuster (like Sands of Time or Two Thrones) nor cool for the kids (like Warrior Within).

All the music in this one is very muchinspired by this movie. Here's the main theme of Lawrence of Arabia:

And PoP:

Anyway, that's all for this time!

I don't like when kids diss this kinda stuff on the internet nowadays. Calling it "ripping off" other stuff.
Don't the understand the meaning of the words "influence", "references" or "tributes"?
The new composer grew up on the classical epic music, like us. It's only supposed to hommage to the cult classic music.
When the new PoP has a score very much Lawrence of Arabia-like it's only well deserving and done with a good attention.

Back on topic!
I really like those little tribute here and there.
That contributes to the whole experience of those games.

That's all for now, see you around ;)
