Time for some cooking activity with Green Arrow!
Here's a pretty fun page, Ollie's own "Chili Recipe". Beware though, it's certainly edible, this isn't just a joke, but like you'd expect from GA, it's HOT! Really hot, like it will burn your entire mouth and ruin your sense of taste for months!
But if you feel up to the challenge, try it~
I wonder who at DC spent the time making this one up :P
Only a hothead like Ollie or someone with Bats' discipline is able to survive this chili!

#Gaming NEWS! #DC characters fight each other...AGAIN!
What a random surprise Warner Bros. just announced!!
Warner announced an upcoming title developed by NetherRealm Studios slated for 2013 and it is called....
"Injustice: Gods Among Us".
which will be an all-new fighting game from the Mortal Kombat developers.
What a twist!
This new random title will have the likes of the Trinity (Bats, WW, Supes) and The Flash facing off against such villains as Harley Quinn and Solomon Grundy!
...Huh, random?!
Nice to see 'em use a random title like this. (and not, say, "Batman & co: Fighting Superstars!!" XD)
But, guys, don't you nromally do these random proprieties-inspired fighting games to build an audience for a crossover? You already did Mortal Kombat Vs. DC! ~
(you know, like X-Men -> X-Men Vs. Street Fighter, Marvel Super heroes -> Marvel Vs. Capcom)
Anyways, the game will be shown more clearly at this year's E3.
Ed Boon explained how the game will use two main categories of characters, the power-users and the ones with gadgets.
Here's some character designs, which seem to take some clues from the current comics "New 52" (specially Supes) :
Justin Gray and Jimmy Palmiotti will apparently be writing the plot here. (a plot? in my fighting games!?)

CBR JLA: Incarnations
Remember my Justice League: Year One review?
Now's the time to dig into it's sequel, a zip through the JLA's following years and teams!
Comic title: JLA: Incarnations
Art by Val Semeiks, Prentis Rollins, Kevin Conrad, Eric Battle, Keith Champagne, Ray Kryssing
Story by John Ostrander
From 2001
Lineup JLA
Format: Maxi-series, published as JLA: Incarnations issues #1-7.
JLA Incarnations is a follow-up to Mark Waid's own JLA Year One.
It picks up where Year One left off, the idea behind this series was to cover various key points over the League's history in all-new adventures taking place during these "eras".
And to take on this dantesque job, it was none other than
John Ostrander is a renowned comic book writer, best known for his classic and popular work on the Suicide Squad, the long running Martian Manhunter series and his most recent work on Star Wars: Legacy.
His style his big, epic and bold, perfect in my eyes to carry over Mark Waid's style.
This mini series serves to tell the history of the JLA during the ~10 year gab that follows the likes of JLA: Year One or Batman: Year One, the vague period of time the mid-80s Crisis event kept but retconned from Golden Age and Silver Age comics.
JLA: Incarnations issues are all double sized.
Each issue tells more or less self-contained stories, on 38-pages long issues. The story picks up fresh from the JLA's formation and first year. Through a sort of "retroactive retelling", we revisit past incarnations of the Justice League up to then-the present time of publication (that is, the JLA composed of the likes of Kyle Rayner!Green Lantern, the bearded spear-handed Aquaman, Plastic Man, etc).
We see how the League evolved, the gradual changes brought to the roster and team.
The first issues covers the "Silver Age" of the team. The roster stayed mostly the same, composed of GL, Flash, Martian Manhunter, Aquaman, Black Canary and Green Arrow. The League was still based in a mountain.
It's a great way to see how these stories took place in the post-Crisis DC Universe.
Subtle changes are given either to the continuity throughout the stories or the characters themselves over the course of the years.
Each issue focuses on some standalone members more than the others. The first issue takes place around the first confrontation between the JLA and the JSA (without any silly Earth-2 aspect), the JSA seems a bit resentful against their successors at first, it's not like in the old comics when they just simply stumbled into another world where other people filled their roles. It's your classic "villain manipulations"-plot though.
The second issue shows us how the "World's Finest" (Superman and Batman) came to be reserve members rather than full League-status.
The third issue, one of my favorites, takes place around the "Satellite era".
When Green Arrow ends up leaving the League, feeling out of touch with the population from the space headquarters.
Ostrander plays "continuity cop", cleans up the DCU hitory and yet still manages to have fun with these overall characters arcs.
You feel invested in these characters in such few pages.
After the depart of Arrow, "thanks to fascists pigs" like Hawkman, there's a whole issue 4 dedicated to Martian Manhunter and Aquaman as they see the constant struggle to keep the team together during the time Elongated Man and Zatanna joined the JLA.
And finally even an issue 5 over a decade in the making, a Crisis tie-in!
And quite an original issue, taking place during that classic event that redefined DC Comics, but from the perspective of the actual resultant "Earth", not the old retconned Silver Age one, and from the eyes of the infamous "JL Detroit", a real team of underdogs heroes. (with the likes of Vibe, Vixen,,..)
There's also a revisiting of Barry Allen's final moments before joining the Speed Force.
And a back-up story taking place during Ostrander's own plotted Legends mini-series (glimpsed in my Blue Beetle review). When heroes became outlawed.
My favorite of the bunch is without a doubt the Super Buddies-esque issue.
Issue 6 sees Blue Beetle and Booster Gold get the Justice League International in trouble.
With some spot-on JLI-era humor, a fun (and funny!) adventure in Bialya
The same issue also offers us a extra tale during the disbanding of +the 90s Extreme Justice.
Finally, issue 7 takes place during the current League, and features the JLA's first foes, the Appelaxians! (last seen in Year One!)
JLA: Incarnations is about epic larger than life-adventures!
There's a lot of character moments, something you don't always get in these kind of action adventure comics.
This comic book series revisits and reimagines past events making they fit each other in the history of the League. There's some bigger character arcs that take place over various issues.
The book covers various classic League villains and some more obscure ones, such as Wotan, Gorilla Grodd, Kobra, etc.
The art is quite appropriate to the periods visited.
I really liked Val Semeiks' chameleon art stly,e, at times channeling John Byrne, other times George Pérez.
The art is bright, sometimes more realistic, other times more comic book-ysh. It ends up with more cartoony Superman and Batman "in the present" at issue 7.
The various inkers truly help Semeiks pencils fit the period of each issue.
There's also an on-going side story, from the perspective of Tully Reed - a reporter who is a big fan of superheroes, though he goes under some changes over the years too.
He's our entry-point into this fantastic world, and like the readers, will often cheer to the heroes, other times resent them..but in the end, he'll follow their heroic example.
Overall, it's a great enjoyable read!
Such a fun ride through the years.
It's also quite easy to get into, this is the kind of story the characters will refer to in their other comic book series.
From their golden days to the dark times and return to form.
I also loved seeing the Martian as the Justice League-constant throughout the years.
(Which, sidenote, reminds me why I just can't get into the currents New 52 League, no Martian Manhunter really? And Didio & co threw him into Stormwatch, nor JLA nor the JLI, really? booooh!!)
Loved all the little details, the mail from the fans-page designed to imitate the JLA at the time,
Keith Giffen/J.M. DeMatties feel of the JLI issue...
It's truly a shame this has never been collected (as of today, as I write these lines).
Even if you only find a issue or two, it's self contained and quite accessible.
I give it:

#Recap - The Avengers
I finally went on to see The Avengers yesterday evening!~
There was a non-3D playing at a movie theater around, starting about an hour after I decided to check it out online, so we just went there ASAP.
And the only thing I want to say is: Joss Whedon really knows how to make a good and entertaining movie!
I'll even nsay, Joss Whedon's f****** good!!
But that I already knew from Serenity, which only wasn't a success at the time because it wasn't a movie as hyped or an IP as popular as this one. And because of Avenger's bigger and better marketing.
Anyways, I truly believe most movies/games/whatever only succeed nowadays due to their bigger and more expansive budge/marketing. Throw money at the screen and people will eat that sh*t - prove in point the awful Transformers Bay-movies.
But I digress.
So Avengers was pretty darn good.
I really think only Whedon (and a couple of others) could make this dream project come true. I mean any other "studio-director" would have been overthrown by the dantesque project. The picture quality, CGi, etc. would have been the same, but the movie wouldn't have spent as much time with each character. Respecting both their respective movie(s) and comic book franchises.
The movie truly felt like a continuation of each series. Part-Captain America follow-up, part-Thor sequel, part-Iron Man 3. Well, Hulk, due to the change of actor I think didn't felt much like an Incredible Hulk, but Edward Norton's Hulk was alluded here and there (through the supersoldier/Abomination plotline).
It was bright, it was colorful, it was EPIC.
Yeah, EPIC's the world. Really, for once this word can b properly used here.
Specially near the end, the big panorama through the fight, pausing on each hero really qualifies this movie as epic.
It really felt like the Avengers come to life, Stan Lee's Avengers live! (speaking of which, I almost feared this would be the first Marvel movie Stan Lee-less, but thankfully, The Man still got a nice lil' unexpected cameo).
The only thing missing was the current cartoon Avengers: Earth Mightiest Heroes' theme song (come on, we all know it would have been awesome, even an orchestral take on that piece!) and the famous AVENGERS ASSEMBLE! catchphrase, which could have been so easily inserted at a certain moment!
Oh, and I guess my only complain was that the movie's villains, the "Chitauri" (if I'm not mistaken) were pretty dull and generic. They were apparently pulled from the Ultimate Marvel comics, I've just read. Well, I originally thought they were improvised for the movie..
I mean, it's almost as if originally, in the screenplay, Loki was using Skrulls or Krees from across the universe, but at the last moment they were replaced due to the producers or Marvel's involvement, to keep them free for a next future movie. (wouldn't surprise me, imagine a movie based on the Skrulls invasion..?) Thus the movie's Chitauri keep a very Skrull-ysh look, vehicles and weapons, but are instead dull grey-sh CGi creatures without personality.
Anyway, in the end, besides that aspect? A pretty epic movie!
Just having fun with superheroes and these Marvel characters. A true superhero movie done right.
Almost makes me which most movies could leave secret origins behind.

More than anything, this movie really made me think we could perfectly have a live Justice League movie that would work on the big screen.
Think about it!
They always think about believable adaptations, etc. But here in Avengers we got a HULK (ha!), gods, aliens from other dimensions, rocketflying robots, super over-the-top-archers, super badass spies, the SHIELD helicarrier, etc.
The audience will accept all that as long as it is properly introduced (not even explained - just take a look at Tony Stark's robots and technology!), has a decent enough budget and an excellent marketing! (<-it always comes down to that, heh?)
You could have Darkseid, Para-demons and Apokolips as main antagonists/reason for the heroes to join forces.
And no excuse like "but Green Arrow/Batman's powerless!" I mean, look at Black Widow or Hawkeye in Avengers! It's a movie, not real life! Just make 'em extremely efficient/badass on screen. It's entertainment, not a fraggin' documentary!
Yeah, this kinda turned into a JL-post, but that's my blog, so let me rumble around :P
Marvel Comics were my gateway into the realm of comic books, but I'm a DC guy at heart!~
Overall: The Avengers? An excellent movie!
Why did we get all these Thor, Iron Men and Hulk movies? Couldn't we had gotten that right away?!

MAD #Superbuddies - A new name
Time for a lil' cartoon short!
This one comes courtesy of MAD TV, one of the animators officially released it on youtube.
It's from an episode from this past February:
This was actually pretty fun! :D
Loved seeing the Flash family, the JLI, and many others get some spotlight in there!
Since Warner Bros' been recycling some DC-related MAD segments in DC Nation (the new Cartoon Network cartoon block), I'm guessing this will air again some time soon.

DC News! Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes trailer
Speaking of DC, here's the newly released first look at the upcoming Traveller's Tales videogame Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes.
Which looks like it will be a Justice League themed sequel to the previous Lego Batman game...
It will be released on almost every single system - PC, Xbox 360, PS3, Vita, Wii, DS, 3DS - this summer.
this looks like it might be a pretty fun title!
Why didn't they simply make a Lego JLA, though?

Deleted Scenes - What if... DC-Mangaverse
Comic book artist Cliff Chiang revealed on Project Rooftop he had been working on a manga/anime-inspired take on the Justice League...
Just imagine what it could have been...
This entire project ended up getting us the Super Young Team which was a team of characters inspired by the DCU's Great Ten and American Superheroes (pictured above).
But at some point, behind the scenes, it was gonna be more literal, a team of young Japanese heroes directly inspired by the Justice League itself.
All of these heroes would have been modeled after cult classic Japanese proprieties.
Cliff Chiang tells how it almost was green-light...
Check out these concepts for the various characters:
(click on the pics for larger size!)
So whaddya think of all this?
Man..it could have been so awesome! Since there's a lack of Elseworlds tales nowadays, I would have loved to see DC launch a spinoff line like Marvel's Mangaverse!
Someone needs to kick the ass of whoever didn’t approve this....

ComicPageOfTheWeekend: The Super Dictionary
I just noticed I never posted any scan from the "Super Dictionary", and it's about damn' time I started doing so!
The Super Dictionary was a sort of encyclopedia published by DC and illustrated by most of the publisher's famous characters.
For comic fans and blog posts, it's a gold mine.
So without further redo, here's my all new Super Dictionary tag for future blog posts.

DC News! Justice League: Doom - Official Trailer
Straight from the NYCC (that's the "New York Comic-Con for ya!) here's the first trailer for the latest animated movie from DC Comics!
Justice League: Doom was written by Dwayne McDuffie right before his death in February 2011, based around the comic book story JLA: Tower of Babel in which Bat-villain Ra's al Ghul got the way to defeat the whole JL gang thanks to some plans of contingency stolen off Batman.
The movie will be directed by Lauren Montgomery.
Some noticeable change to the story and characters will be done.
Like having The Flash!Barry Allen instead of Wally West (minor change as both are quite interchangeable in a story where their alter-ego won't play a part), but also replace Green Lantern!Kyle Rayner by Hal Jordan which kinda annoys me since Kyle still exists in comics and does have quite an important part in the current DCU and his own book.
It will also throw out Aquaman (weird?) and add Cyborg instead, current JLAer in the "New 52" universe in the comics.
And Ra's al Ghul seems to have been replaced by the Legion of Doom.
On the better announcements, besides some returning voice actors and new ones, Nathan Fillion will once again voice Hal Jordan!
And it's awesome!
Looks all fine and dandy!
But is it me or is the quality of the art and animation kinda, errr, decreasing? That's what you get for rushing all these movies so soon, so many one after the other...
It looks like the studio in charge of Young Justice is doing this one, don't you think?

My new TWITTER-suggested selection of DC Characters!

I wanted to cover more than just Batman characters this time.
See if you can recognize what you recommended me to draw.
Here's some of my favorite picks:
@Eyzmaster mia speedy!
@Eyzmaster Red Star and/or Pantha
@Eyzmaster How about obscure DC characters? Like JLA members people don't know about like Tomorrow Woman, Triumph, or Moon Maiden.

Deleted Scenes - DC Super Friends
Speaking of TV series today, you know Batman: The Brave and The Bold's got canceled to make way for another Batman show, this one will be grittier to tag along the upcoming 3rd Christopher Nolan movie, right?
Well, at some point earlier this year (or in 2010) DC thought they had to replace Brave and the Bold by another old school yet watchable by a young audience-cartoon.
Thus we almost ended up with....
Sure watching them back nowadays, it was pretty silly, cheaply (barely) animated and it's quite cheesy.
But many grown up fans have still fond memories of it, so it continued influencing both the comics and other adaptations form DCs.
Characters from the cartoon made it into DC canon, throwbacks and references can still be found on the Brave and the Bold cartoon or more recently, in Young Justice (they use the old Hall of Justice as a decoy base of operations).
Anyway, nowadays the name is used by a toy lineup aimed at kids and its Johnny DC-inspired young readers comics.
And since Brave and the Bold was ending, the "powers that be" decided it would have been nice to turn this cartoon turned toyline back into a cartoon again.
Yes, it would have been DC's answer to Marvel Super hero squad.
Only 2-3 episodes were done. (I heard 4, but I couldn't find any concret proof)
But in the end, it was canceled, DC's planning already full, with lots of shows at the moment. (to name but a few, a CGi Batman cartoon, a CGi Green Lantern cartoon, the Young Justice cartoon series, an upcoming live Blue Beetle, a TV adaptation of the Sandman, a TV adaptation of Deadman and there's a rumoured Raven Smallville-like TV series coming up too)
Those 2-3 produced shows made their way on DVDs offered along some of these "DC Super Friends" toys.
So, here have a look at this unproduced series, and see if you would have liked a whole show like this.
The opening theme:
It is certainly drawing a lot from the 70s.
I hate the boots/feet. But I guess that's what you get when you make a cartoon out of toys.
Reminds me why I dislike such cartoons...
And here's a bit from the first episode:
Okay, I can say without doubt it's not on the same level as Brave and the Bold, it's much worse. Clearly for very young kids.
Though I kinda like the silly tone. Old school! Made to match the tone of the old Super Friends cartoon.
I might have liked this in the long run....
Awww... :(
(unlike the ugly CGi models from Green Lantern... ugh..)
And it's even drawing a bit from the relaunched "New 52", the rebooted DCnU!
See, Cyborg's part of the Justice League!
Anyway, we can't say it would have been good or bad in the long run, since we'll never know.
But if the toy line reflects what the show might have been like...
We would have had characters like Ted Kord!Blue Beetle!!
(and Wild Cat!!)
...And probably Booster Gold too at some point!!
Awww, socks!
Well, at some point earlier this year (or in 2010) DC thought they had to replace Brave and the Bold by another old school yet watchable by a young audience-cartoon.
Thus we almost ended up with....
DC SUPER FRIENDS!!
The Super Friends were originally a long running cartoon back around the 70s show, that introduced many kids to the DC universe and the Justice League.Sure watching them back nowadays, it was pretty silly, cheaply (barely) animated and it's quite cheesy.

Screen from one of the episodes, Booster Gold as a mascot cereal on a billboard in the background.
