FanMade - Zelda: The Lost Oracle Trailer

What if there actually was a full fledged sequel to Zelda: Wind Waker?
Not one of those portable Zelda titles, a big new entry on modern systems?

This Canadian animator Joel Furtado decided to go ahead, and make his own trailer for such a title:

Woah!
Gorgeous!
I gotta say this is really impressive. Love the atmosphere he recreated here.
The visuals/graphics look amazing!

I might have missed the last couple modern Zelda entries - Twilight Princess, Skyward Sword, all the portable titles since the Oracle of ones on the GBA - but I would totally buy this in an instant!

FanFilmFriday: Link to the Future

With the 25th Anniversary of the Legend of Zelda raging around lately, I thought this would be appropriate for today.

Fans on the internet have been going crazy with the Zelda timeline lately (as it is all the time these days, whenever a new episode is released).
Even more so thanks to an official Guide to the Zelda series released in Japan, which featured a sort of Timeline (unapproved by Shigeru Miyamoto nor Takashi Tezuka though..).
Fans have been trying to make sense out of it, how the games follow one another and therefore...

Here's a little fanfilm which you might find interesting and à propos...

Robin Williams' Zelda Ads - Ocarine/Four Swords/Skyward Sword

I was sure I had posted the previous ones when I faved them over at youtube back then...
Oh well.

Well this man, as everyone knows, is Robin Williams.
He's a great comedic actor, a very funny comedian, etc.
As fewer of you probably know is daughter is named Zelda Williams. That's right, he named her after the Legend of Zelda videogame series (and main character princess Zelda).
Robin Williams is known to be a big gamer and mentioning videogames often during interviews.
The original Zelda is his favorite game of all time.

These video have already gone throughout the interwebs, probably all of you have seen 'em.
I thought I had posted the first one a while ago... I probably did but messed up my labels so I couldn't find that post. Edit: Found them tagged them correctly!

Anyways, here's all three commercials Williams did for Nintendo alongside his daughter.

The first one was for the Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D remake on 3DS.

Pretty self explanatory and funny.
It has already become a classic!
Now that's how you make a genuinely fun advertisement without over-using a celebrity but simply having fun along.

Then, more recently, the dad & daughter Williams duo did this other ad, for Zelda Four Swords now:

Finally, this one was just released in some countries for now, so excuse the format.
It's for the latest entry Zelda: Skyward Sword:

Nintendo sure is having fun with the Princess Zelda/Zelda Williams connection lately :P

Awesome!
You know what, I might actually finally buy a new Zelda game! (latest was Wind Waker personally)
Robin Williams seems to enjoy making these, such a great guy. And Zelda is quite lovely. :P

And I just noticed...
That's a lot of Zelda games lately.

Randomz - Zelda The Cartoon CENSORED!

Remember the ol' 90s Zelda The Animated Series? I sure do, it's even easily my favorite interpretation of Link!

One thing I liked was that it even featured a more forward Link and Zelda relationship. I mean, Link was hitting on her 24/7, Zelda was obviously interested but didn't want this lazy slacker for a boyfriend.

Who knew it could be such a saucy show you wouldn't dare show to kids by simply censoring some words here and there..
Here, enjoy!

Link is such a desesperate pervert...
And that fairy's even worse! :P

Gamin' NEWS! reboots, sequels and vaporware

In today's gaming news post, let's check out some long awaited sequels (Sonic, Zelda...), rumored remakes (Syndicate) and long forgotten titles resurrected from development hell too (I Am Alive).
First up, Sega released another trailer for Sonic Generations (Sonic: White Time and Space in Japan!!), this one showcasing Sonic's 128 bits era. (Dreamcast/Gamecube/PS2/Xbox)

It's the official announcement of Speed Highway (Sonic Adventure), City Escape (Sonic Adventure 2) and Seaside Hill (Sonic Heroes)!!
Plus a "surprise" boss battle is also announced with the little tease at the end.

Meanwhile, Nintendo released this new "romantic" trailer for Zelda: Skyward Sword.

Have a look at this all-new Link and Zelda!

On a less positive note, 1993 Bullfrog game is being completely reimagined in this remake by Starbreeze Studio.
Some fans been hating it, others can't wait for it.
I'm just sad it's gonna be yet another FPS oriented RPG-lite adaptation (like what happened to X-Com or the Fallout series). Too much of the same idea in my eyes. Can't games be different/try original gameplay these days? NOoooOo! One things sells, let's all copy/past it!
Anyway, here's the new Syndicate!

Looks actually kinda good. Better than what we've seen of the new X-com for example.
But I dunno...

Finally, here's one from Ubisoft.
Several YEARS ago, they announced a new game (around the rumours of a Beyond Good & Evil 2 started if memories serve right) which was called I Am Alive.
It promised to run on their then-new Assassin's Creed engine, offer a huge open ended world in a post-apocalyptic scenario. The game would feature some survival elements, trying to survive, gather food/water, etc.. Some light parkour/platform too, which is the norm for all Ubisoft titles these days.
It probably would have played kinda similar to Assassin's Creed 1/2 or Splinter Cell Conviction I guess. 3rd person style action game.

Today, a new trailer was releasedd, the game confirmed to be finally coming to Xbox 360, PC and PS3.
Only now it is a downloadable title, the look and probably the game seems to have been completely redone from scratch, featuring a first person point of view.

Check it out!

The game is "Alive"! Looks like a complete overhaul. Might be fun, not sure if I like the new tone of the game...
Will probably be an interesting title anyway.

And that is all for the day~

Gamin' NEWS! Some Nintendo titles + Bananas!

From this year's 2011 Tokyo Game Show!

It's time for yet another video game update blog post!
This time featuring Nintendo trailers and some familiar Monkey returning yet once again.
First up, let's check out Nintendo's all new trailer for their upcoming The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword!

Nintendo doesn't do much CGi trailers usually, so it's always nice to give a look at such video for one of their titles.
I missed a couple Zelda games, so I'll be playing this around 2015 probably (ha! retro gamers don't fear delays in their "planning"!)

And here's a gameplay trailer showcasing some new mechanics and features:

Looks fun!
It will be released the 20 November on the Wii.

And now, here's a look at Nintendo's mascot upcoming title. This one's on the 3DS instead, for November too, Super Mario 3D Land:

This video's from the press conference.
All in all, Super Mario 3D Land looks like a pretty neat entry. I'm more itnerested in playing this than any of the Mario Sunshine/Galaxy/2 that I missed.
I dunno, but the mix of 2D sidescrolling + simpler 3D platformer has really a nice touch to it. Sure, both Mario Galaxy games might be good games but I'd rather go for something simpler without the planetoids gimmick. (yeah, call me old school if you want!)

Meanwhile, Kirby returns in the appropriately named Kirby's Return to Dream Land on the Wii later this year.
This new game will be a return to basics after a more original entry earlier this year.

Awesome!
I haven't played any Kirby game since the (two) original game(s) on the classic Game Boy waaaay back.
Might give it a try!
(plus, I can't get enough of all these recent sidescrollers lately!)

Luigi will be back in his own spinoff, in this sequel to the Gamecube launch title. This time on 3DS as well.
(note to self: might need to end up buying a 3DS at some point...)

Luigi's Mansion 2's looking great so far! :D

And finally, looking at the other side of the fence.
Sega will bring the series Super Monkey Ball back to the scene, with an all-new entry this time for Sony's new handheld system, the PS Vita:

Great recommended hybrid platformer/puzzle series! If you got a system on which there's a Monkey Ball, I can't recommend trying one of these games. The puzzles are often quite interesting and always make you scratch your brain on later levels.

And that is all for this time~

The Legend of Zelda - Theme song!

You might have seen me do a lot of Zelda parodies lately... Here's one and one more.
Well, checking out some good ol' Zelda material had me thinking about the series....

Anyway, since I posted the intro of the old Mario cartoon not long ago, I wanted today to also post the Zelda cartoon intro now!

Here it is, in all its full HD glory nonetheless!

Say want you want, don't make your own opinion if you don't want to and follow some generic popular internet rants instead, you mindless sheep, you!... but speaking from facts.. this cartoon was actually pretty good.

Sure, it gave a personality to Link, which you might not like...
But the cartoon for an early adaptation, was pretty faithful. And fun. And had adventure!
It's not your NES Link, mind you... It was like in most games, just another incarnation of Link (and Zelda, and Ganon). The Princess even used to kick ass most of her screen time (which can't be said much of the in-game Zeldas...no, Sheik!Zelda or Tetra-Zelda *late-spoiler alert!* don't count!! I'm speaking of the Zelda-Zelda character!!)
And everything from the ambient music to the sound effects, character designs and plots contributed to the Zelda atmosphere...which can't be said much of other 80s/90s cartoon adaptations.. (Captain N, Karaté Kid, Rambo, etc...to name but a few other adaptations from the same era)

And, excuuuuuuuuse me, but I actually liked this Link!
He kinda suffered from what I call "Venkmanisation", which is a trend, following the successful Ghostbusters cartoon, which consisted in turning all main characters in kids cartoons into Peter Venkman, with all his characters traits from design/hair style/comportement/lazy attitude. See Captain Plane or James Bond Jr. for other examples! XD

Why Robin Williams has called his daughter Zelda ?

Here's an answer to the latest ad Robin Williams did for Nintendo.

Why did Robin Williams call his daughter Zelda ?
Because he's a huge fan of Nintendo's classic Nes title.

Robin and Zelda Williams share whith us their love for Link:

This interview needed more screens from the original you know, not just the 3D one they're promoting on the latest Nintendo system :P

Though I'd imagine her childhood might have been difficult sometimes.
(kids can be such jerks sometimes... yeah, I said it and not taking it back - deal with it!)

Gotta love those two!
Robin, you're the man! And Zelda's pretty cute :'3

Ad - "Ocarina of Time 3D" Robin Williams Commercial

Here's a pretty fun little gem.
You gotta love whenever they made these sort of adverts :)

Mr. Williams is such a great guy.
Well done Nintendo. Best ad you have done in a while! (those "stereotypical families having fun with the Wiimotes" were getting quite tiresome...)

E3 NEWS! lots MOAR trailers PartV

(...)
So, lotsa things happened since I last blogged about the Expo on this blog.

A new Nintendo System, the Wii U, which will be a much more powerful HD Wii in a way. With big mainstream "adult" titles such as Alien Colonial Marines, Metro Last Light, Ninja Gaiden 3 and even some mysterious titles such as Assassin's Creed (is it an exclusive one? the original/a remake Assassins' Creed 1? Assassin's Creed Revelation only they forgot to put in the rest of the title?) and Tekken (Tekken Tag 2? A new one? A remake of the original classic?).
This new system has a very special type of controller, more like a tablet than an actual controller, with buttons + sticks. Featuring a screen which kinda makes this controller a sort of handheld system, only 1 player will be able to use it on a Wii U, the others will have to use "classic" Wiimotes.

Meanwhile Sony showcased their new PSP2, sorry, the VITA. Or PSVita, or PSV..anyways I'm just glad they didn't keep their previous temporary acronym NGP ("Next Gen Portable") which will always stand for me for Neo Geo Pocket :P
Me and tons of retro gamers around the world.

What d'you guys think?
Well, I for one am not really a fan of accessories or systems. It's the games that count. (same goes with movies and 3D, home released and Blurays or DVDs.. the content is always more important than the container)
They'll all have to offer more than 5-10 good titles to interest me :P

First let's start quickly with a Wii U (how do you say that? Way-you? Wee-eww?) reveal trailer:

It's backward compatible with all existing Wii games, and apparently supports existing Wii hardware too.
I'm guessing (and hoping) the same goes with Gamecube stuff. (or I'll have to replug the GC!) And hopefully we'll be able to transfer our game saves/profiles/etc in some way...
It's pretty gimmicky, but I guess that's the way technology is evolving into.
The controller doesn't surprise nor impress me much.. I guess that was bound to happen. *reads/watches too much scifi stuff*

Enough!

On to the games now!

Nintendo had lots of trailers/announcement regarding its other new system, the 3DS.
Including a Metal Gear Solid, a Starfox and a Mario Kart 3DS.
Let's check out the others not as much people will look into:

Kid Icarus: Uprising, looking nice, if a bit pixelated.
(but I guess that goes with most 3DS titles... to force people to use the 3D to smooth things out)

Here's now Super Mario. Simply Super Mario.
From the same team that made Galaxy.

Woah!
Not much a fan of Mario usually (and I don't get "blinded" by Mario's legacy, nostalgia and fanboysm when judging one) but this looks great!
Why couldn't they make one like this on the Wii directly?
Everything I always wanted Mario 64 to be!!
(yeah, I admit it, I never liked it much...too much uncontrollable for my tastes and serious lack of sidescrollin' around..)
And here's another Mario:

Yeah, I said I wasn't gonna post those big name games...but I guess I lied :P
At least this one's Paper Mario 3DS!
Looks nice.
I doubt I'll get it (at least at full price!)
But nice.

Meanwhile on Capcom's side:

It's Resident Evil: Revelations!
For the 3DS also.
(all the good games are coming up there?)

Unlike Mercenaries, which is all about shooting action, Revelations is all about survival horror, the very genre Resident Evil established. We actually think of Revelations as a direct sequel to Resident Evil 5 and it will be full of new, innovative ideas and characters
Capcom sees this one as the true actual new RE game. Or at least, that's how they're trying to sell us this one.
And if you're not convinced, here's another title:

Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City. Much like Resident Evil: Mercenaries on the 3DS, it's a multiplayer spinoff title. This one is based around the events of the classic RE in Raccoon City.
Like a sort of Left4Dead take on the series.

Back to Big N.

Link is back in The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword.
Looking lovely, sharp, bright, colorful.
Love the feel, the graphics...
I'm expecting a Wii and Wii U releases. Like Twilight Princess.
The question now is, which system was it developed for, and where is it being ported to in a rush.
Mario, Sonic & co are brought back together one more time, in...

Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games!
Another one, right!
....And one more time it's gonna sell a million copies.
And here's another sequel, this one to a much more loved "Mario" game:

That's right!
Next Level Games is developing a Luigi’s Mansion 2.
Worry not, Shigeru Miyamoto is even on board!

It looks like more of the same, only this time on the 3DS.
Is it only me, or shouldn't most games of today's post be on the actual Wii rather than the 3DS? (is Nintendo already moving into the Wii U?)
Here's a new Capcom title, which I'd like to call "Buddhist God of War"

Asura’s Wrath.
It seems to be an over-the-top beat'em all.

Looking much better than I thought original back in 2010.

Remember the announcement of Puzzle Agent 2 by Telltale Games?
Here's the debut trailer!

Looking great, amazing and fun!

And finally, a new Kirby game that Nintendo seems to have been pretty quiet about.
A return to a more traditional Kirby after last year's stylized entry.

Outcast Studios - LIVE DRAW NIGHT May 2011

So, last night at the Outcast forums, we had another one of our "Live Draw Nights", where a dozen or so comic fans spend hours drawing characters after characters.

http://outcaststudios.com/forums/
It's a very fun challenge, it provides such an interesting and challenging practice session.
It's divided into 4 hours, were we:
- Draw 5-10 minutes characters on the first hour
- We draw half hour sketches the second hour
- Had an interesting rule in the 3rd one, do a "costume swap"
- Finish the last 4th hour with a much more challenging and complete drawing, based on someone's cosplay (this time, it was a pretty professional Iron Man cosplay)

There were some very interesting choices amongst the subject, they weren't even all comic book-related!

Let's check out some of the pics I've drawn last night, if you please!

First Hour

We started with a 90s classic, with Judge Dredd!
I was taking it slowly at first (see face) then noticed the next challenge was already up and rushed through the body...

I'm kinda impressed I was able to draw this much of Zatanna in so little time :P
Always fun to draw Zee^^

A simple Captain America bust.

Marv from Sin City.
Could have been much better.. I should have inked some black spots on his jacket, just for contrast...

Ugliest Joker I've ever drawn...in a "not that really good"-kinda way...

Second Hour

Link, from the Legend of Zelda. First non-comic book character!
We had the choice amongst various Links, but giving me a choice, I had to take Cartoon Link over emo-animu Link...

Okay, I admit it, I had fun with this one.
I decided to draw a more retro Samus Aran from the old Metroid games over the current one...

Third Hour

The "costume swapping" challenge!
We had to pick a character from a list, put him/her into another one's costume and vis-versa.
Some guys at the forums had fun with Poison Ivy's costume and Colossus'. Ha, good times :P
I picked up Starfire and decided to put her into another Titan's costume....

...and Raven into Starfire's.
Ha :P
Kinda gives a completely different angle to both Titans gals, heh? :'3

Fourth Hour

Finally, the last one!
We had these kickass reference pics of a fan in a badass Iron Man cosplay.
I went with a more classic comic book Iron Man for the sketch.

And that is all from last night's 4 hours of LiveDrawNight~
Hope you liked it ;)

Why don't you even try joining in for next time? ;)

Gamin' NEWS! Nintendo and some more Sonic

Link is finally back!
In The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword.

Well, I'm not a huge Zelda fan, but, hey!, I played most Zelda games.
Maybe I'll check this one out.
I'm still some Zeldas late. Last one I played was Wind Waker and I still plan on trying Minish Cap, Phantom Hourglass, Twilight Princess and Spirit Tracks...at some point!
I wanted to try all of those above..but Zelda games are so muchh expensive and never have price drops! (at least here!)

Good things about this new one above, even if it's realistic (like Twilight Princess), it will be cell shaded (like Wind Waker).
Bad things. The gameplay looks a big...too much motion control to me... :/

There's also one more new 2D platformer.
The new Kirby, Kirby's Epic Yarn, will be out on Wii on fall 2010.

Looking nice, what d'you think?

And finally a 3D sidescroller, Donkey Kong Country Returns.

From Retro Studios. This one will also be out later this year.
A new Donkey Kong sidescroller! Pretty cool news, right?
Here's the teaser:

On a non-Nintendo side, here's the very first pics of the random new game Sonic Free Riders for Xbox 360!

Looks...decent.
Not really interested in playing this one, honestly!
(but somehow...I guess I'll add it to my "collection" at some point)

So many new sidescroller (be it 2D, 3D and 2,5D) around actually!
Finally! I'm glad of this turn of events.
And not just digital ones, but full retail games!
It sure took there time... Man, couldn't they just follow Wario Land Wii and A boy and his blob? (talking about 'Splosion Man, Sonic 4, Rocket Knight here...)

A new Kid Icarus game (absolutely not a fan of that one, Smash Bros fans might light it), Goldeneye 64 re-released, that Epic Mickey game... And you, are you happy with what's been announced/showed lately?
What are you expecting the most?
