#E3 NEWS! The Act looks Dragon's Lair-licious!

And last (?) for this year's E3, the best random surprise of the bunch, though I'm annoyed it's only for iOS Apple-stuff and not PC yet is probably The Act.

The Act will be an old school arcade "QTE" animated game.
Think Dragon's Lair.
Though I'm more of a fan of the more hardcore/faster and logical Space Ace or the more open/non-linear Brain Dead 13.

They might not have the art or help of classic cartoonist Don Bluth on board, but they sure are close to it!
The drawings and animation is simply gorgeous!
Too gorgeous to keep it on iOS only, dammit!!

The game will be simpler (if that's possible) by the fact it will only use the left and right directions, no action button.
Though I'd have preferred if they went more adventure game-style, like the Brain Dead 13 I mentioned above. Sort of "make your own adventure" instead of just watching the cartoon happen in front of your eyes with minimal interaction.

Here's some great screenshots of this game's lovely art:

I hope it's fun enough to warrant various playthroughs, or at at least offer some replay value, the big problem of this old genre of action games...

And here's the wonderful trailer!

Lovin' it!! :D

It's developed by React Entertainment and will be out later this month.

#E3 NEWS! Bounty Hunters and #StarWars - again!

Well, this one's certainly looking nice!
LucasArts just finally revealed the long rumored new Star Wars game... and it's mostly what people expected, and then some!

It's called Star Wars 1313 and seems to be an all-new original SW game.
It will be M-Rated (!) and will have the player in the role of a mysterious random new bounty hunter.

It seems to draw a bit from next gen-current games and from the ol' Star Wars: Bounty Hunter too. But will have a new random merc instead of Bobba/Jango Fett this time around.
(so this is the closest will get of that sequel I always dreamt of!...)

It looks gorgeous and people are thinking it might end up as a next-gen title instead!

The version they showed at E3 was actually running on a PC. It is sort of reminiscent of that long awaited Prey 2 game from Bethesda.

Check out the official reveal trailer:

Nice!
Though doesn't show much...so here's some in-game combat!

And some more gameplay footage!

Badass!
Loving it so far!

#E3 NEWS! 1st day recap part 3

E3 2012 blogposts continue!
Now with more scifi and returning classics!
First up a look at the upcoming Halo 4!
Microsoft said a lot regarding this one. I'm sure everyone's got their own opinion on this game.
I just hope it gets a more science fiction-ysh and interesting story (not just something fanboys notice, but something mind blowing and engaging for everyone!).

Something closer to Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay rather than Quake 3 Arena hopefully - story-wise.

It certainly looks impressive visually!

~

Tomb Raider is back!
Yay!
It's a reboot!
Nay...

Anyways, this new game will take some cues from recent adventure/platformer games such as Assassin's Creed and Uncharted.
More cinematic, it does look quite impressive. I'd have preferred the series to continue on Crystal Dynamic's Legends/Anniversary/Underworld's path. At least we still got them behind the series, right?

It does look stunning!
And quite "Next Gen" if I may say so.

It doesn't look that far from past TR game though. Only sans the jumping around.

~

RE is back with Resident Evil 6!
Tons of new details regarding the new story have surfaced!

The atmosphere seems to draw some inspiration from both past and present RE games.
The game looks graphically gorgeous, much better than the series ever been so far.

New villain, Ada Wong back, Sherry all grown up and it seems we'll get about 6 lead characters this time around!
This one will be out on October 2 for both Xbox 360 and PS3.

~

Activision's Transformers: Fall of Cybertron is back on the frontline with an all-new badass video:

Robots, giant robots, dinosaur robots... And lotsa lasers!
Looks like everything Michael Bay's movie should have been in the first place!

Definitively something worth keeping an eye on.

~

And that's it for this post!

#E3 NEWS! Avengers tie-in

Speaking of Ubisoft, an Avengers tie-in game was confirmed. And yeah, it's coming up a bit late. (I fear cancellation...)

On the down side, this game Avengers: Battle for Earth will be a motion-controlled title for Xbox 360 and Wii U.
So unless it's a very good and tightly controlled arcade game.. I'm not feeling it so far.

On the plus side it's handled by Ubisoft Quebec and it won't be a simple movie adaptation, but rather take its roots in the comics.
Check out the "real" Hawkeye, Captain America with the little headwings and Thor with his helmet on:

Confirmed in the game are appearances by Wolverine, Spider-Man and more!

Now, we only need to see some actual gameplay footage...

#E3 NEWS! 1st day recap part 2

E3 2012 continue!
Let's have a look at what Ubi's showed this year!
First, Assassin's Creed!

I'm trying to avoid spoilers and watching too much, but this new Assassin's Creed 3 is shaping up quite nicely!

Here's an all-new CGi trailer:

...and because Ive got so much hype for it, here's another more cinematic and less spoiler-y trailer:

It seems the game will be oustanding!
It will include some new elements such as naval warfare and a complete and realistic weather system. (the weather in past games was more locally and settings generated, to set the mood during the story).

And here's some gameplay just for comparison, to see how more improved and realistic it is now:

And accompanying this title there will be a 2nd Assassin's Creed game, on a portable system. Like with much of the previous titles.

This time something more original though.

Assassin’s Creed III Liberation will be an exclusive episode for the Vita.
But unlike past PSP and DS game it won't feature Altair or Ezio, or bring Connor from the main new episode on a portable adventure.

Instead it will have new story that takes place in New Orleans and stars the series’ first ever female heroine!
How cool is that! I've been hoping to see some more new characters and original protagonists on portable episode. And now I see it will have this kickass lady as main character - something I'd have even preferred in a main episode.

Anyway this looks like 1 definitive good reason to get this console! (like I wrote here in the past, I need at least 5 good reasons to wanna invest in a new system)

Sony already announced a bundle with the game, something that will sell some consoles no doubt!

~

Meanwhile, the new Rayman gets explained and new infos.

Rayman Legends seems to be confirmed for almost all possible systems. (Wii U, PS3, 360, 3DS, Vita, etc.)
But only the Wii U version's been showed, as well as it's Wii U exclusive aspects, such as using the screen-gyroscopic controller, etc.
A new returning character from Rayman 2 named Murphy.
And more!

The game is a direct sequel to Origins and will sport more of the same kind of gorgeous 2D graphics. I'm not a big fan of the new shading. But it looks great nonetheless!

Check this out, there's some mix of 2D and 3D here and there, and it looks fantastic!

~

But WAIT!
That's not all!
Some other ips have returned, such as Sam Fisher!

Splinter Cell Blacklist looks simply amazing!
It seems it will have a new engine, and spotlight the best gameplay elements of the franchise so far.
I hope for more Conviction that Double Agent personally.
Also a core element from the series has been announced integrated into the gameplay now. What could it be...?

Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Blacklist will be out next year.
It will bring some more Assassins Creed element to the series, with more walls and buildings being climbable!

Welcome to Forth Echelon...

Can't wait to see Sam back in action!

~

And that is not all!
Ubi also announced some new ips unlike many others.

Such as Watch Dogs.
It will be an action thriller that plays like an open-world "superhero" game. With tech and gadgets at your services.

Here's a trailer:

No systems yet.
It does look great though.

~

And if that wasn't enough for ya, there's also a more simpler and mindless fun game, ZombiU for Wii U!
Don't disregard it due to its title though.

Looks legit to me!

It seems this one was built from the remains of  Killer Freaks from Outer Space, Ubisoft's former Wii U horror exclusive -shown at E3 last year - which has been canned and recycled it seems.
This could well be a nice surprise for next year!

It looks like a Dead Island meet Dead Rising mix. And it is being developed at Ubi Montpellier!

~

And that is all for this post!

#Movie NEWS! first pics of Iron Man 3's new villain

Avengers out, did you know they're already filming Iron Man 3 at the moment?
And some crazy screenshots from fans have already invaded the web of what might be one of the movie's new villains....

What is that....?
Lemme see closer...

That's right! It seems to be an Iron Patriot costume!

But I doubt it will be the same kinda Iron Patriot as the one in the Marvel Comics.
In the comics, it was Spider-man's villain Norman Osborn who used this alter ego. But being "copyrighted" by Sony at the moment, someone else will don this armor here.
Technically though, Iron Patriotdid appear first in an Avengers comics, so it might be okay for Marvel films to use him.

This means actor James Badge Dale (originally rumored to be Coldblood) will be playing here in fact some unnamed new guy as Iron Patriot, alongside these other rumored villains Ben Kingsley as The Mandarin, and Guy Pearce as Aldrich Killian, the man behind the Extremis technovirus.

Seems a bit "too much"... And with Jon Favreau out...will we end up with a "Spider-man 3" again...!?!

#Movie NEWS! Jackie Chan's 100th movie

Here's a trailer for the latest Jackie Chan movie.
What's so special about it is that it will be his 100th movie!

Holy Molly!

It's called Chinese Zodiac and it will open at Cannes on May 18.
Jackie spent seven years working on the movie — including writing, producing, directing and coordinating fight scenes!
"For the last ten years I've been choosing the director to direct me. This one I direct myself." he said. "I hope this movie, 20 years later, people still remember it. For me, for the audience, for my future, for my history — it's very important."
Jackie's now 58, and if his recent Hollywood productions have been more simpler action-wise, I'm glad to see him back to his roots, still kickin' ass and taking names!
"I've been fighting and doing action films all my life, you've got to find a point to stop. With this movie I'm the director, I'm the writer, I'm the producer. So okay, I think it's a good time to announce that it's my last big action movie.
"I would still do action movies but not a big one like this."
And here's trailer for his biggest film yet:

Woah! Looking great!
One of this film's fight scene is apparently costing more than $10 million to shoot!!
He's said he wants to retire from action films....

So enjoy this one regardless, it's gonna be spectacular!

Gamin' NEWS! Amazing Spider-man random tidbit

I'm not following much the news regarding the Amazing Spider-man video game adaptation..
Because it just looks like your generic movie tie-in.

But this random news tidbit looked interesting enough to be worth mentioning here.

If you pre-order the game in the US, it looks like you may unlock some random alternate characters/DLC to play with.
Not your usual alternate Spidey costumes, but....

The Rhino looks like a huge naked g...HOLY SHIT!?!?IS THAT STAN LEE??? HOW AWESOME IS THAT?! XD

Anyhow, that's that :P

TV Spot for The Avengers "Iron Man Vs Castle"

Holy Molly!! This is probably the best "ad" for a movie I've ever seen!!
Well played, Joss Whedon! Combining Nathan Fillion!Castle with Iron Man!The Avengers - genius!! :D

Can you believe this combined ad for Avengers (just out now, about everywhere) and the awesome Castle TV series got fans imagining Nathan Fillion is Antman in the movie, all over again?
Well..me too. I'd make a perfect Hank Pym....
(but I'd still prefer if we could had him over at DC, as Hal Jordan!! >__<)

#Movie NEWS! over-the-top badass Expendables 2 trailer!!

This' just in, the all-new Expendables 2 trailer!
Check it out, yo!

It's an older and tired Sylvester Stallone that introduce us to this over-the-top extravaganza fest.

Oh man!
So pumped out for this!!!
Looks extremely fun and "old school"~
And Van Damme vs. Stallone?? Sign me in!!!

Scharzy's back, "I'll be back!" he kept telling us :P

This is looking pretty entertaining and badass :)

#Marvel NEWS! New The Amazing Spider-Man trailer!

With Avengers out, and Dark Knight Rises well on its way, it's Sony Picture's turn with their own Amazing Spider-Man by Marc Webb.

I almost forgot about this one.
I wasn't really interested in it so far, because of an ugly Lizard and a bad casting (IMO).
But then, this pic of Curt Connors!Lizard sporting his classic labcoat (above) and the following happened:

Wow!
Just... wow!
Looking pretty good.
Pretty, pretty, pretty good.

I can even look past this Garfield-guy as Peter Parker, the weird plot point ("Peter's parents...") and the new weird looking Spider-suit. This just looks really fun!
And he quips, he swings and hits the mark!

Looking forward to it~

#Gaming NEWS! stealth badassery

One kill every 10 seconds in this video! :P

The game is looking very sharp, modern and elegant!
Love finally seeing an Hitman available this generation.

'need to keep an eye on this one~

#BestOf Undercovers - Bill Hoyt

I miss the short lived Undercovers.
I really believe it had potential!
It was like a more grounded Alias (another Bad Robot shot), featuring more realistic and professional secret agents than Chuck.

Oh well, at least we can still enjoy Ben Schwartz hilarious scenes thanks to reruns and youtube!

Here's the introduction to CIA Field Agent Bill Hoyt

Guyz Nite - Die Hard

Did ya guys hear, apparently there's gonna be a new Die Hard?

And it will be titled A Good Day to Die Hard and is aiming for a Valentine's Day 2013 release date.
Max Payne director John Moore is currently signed to direct it...which doesn't sound good if you ask me.
Why does Fox insist on being cheap? Can't they hire a real director?
Not necessary bring back John McTiernan, but at least a good action films veteran.
Someone that could get an award or something, not another one of those noobs that is on his 1st/3rd film only....

I quote:
The film is said to involve John McClane and his son heading to Russia.
Okay... We'll see how this turns out, at least it sounds better (even if cliché) than the mess of a plot of the 4th one... (cyber-hackers taking over Washington...really?... -sigh-)

Anyways, here's the fantastic epic song by Guyz Nite that brought my love for the series back despite what the 4th movie did to me after its theater release! (need I repeat the above paragraph??)

Rockin' Hard, John McLane style!
Yipee ki yay motherf****r!!

Update! (since this honestly doesn't require a new post) Here's a first pic of the upcoming Die Hard 5 aka A Good Day to Die Hard:

It's Jai Courtney as John McClane’s Son, John Jr.!

VGR Disaster: Day of Crisis

And it's time for another game review!
But this time, still fresh from the latest "survival horror" themed reviewed, we explore something a bit different.
That's right!
I would like to present you a little hidden gem, not far off the genre, but quite different from your usual games.
Today, let's see....

VGR: Disaster: Day of Crisis
From Monolith Soft
Played on Wii
Also available on /

Type Survival/Action adventure
Year 2008

What is Disaster: Day of Crisis you gonna ask me?
It is quite complicated to summarize in a few words.
I can tell you it's a pretty fun and great looking game for the Wii, which makes uses of the various ways to play with Nintendo's Nunchuk and Wiimote controllers.
It is also a very arcade-ysh experience, a game that contains several different gameplays depending on the situation.
But I can also simply say, "do you know Survival Horror games? yeah, those horror oriented action-adventure games where you collect objects, resolve puzzles and go around avoiding/fighting monsters? well, this game's just a Survival Game without the horror".

Developed by Monolith Soft (makes of the Xenosage/Xenoblade games), originally as a Wii launch title, but then moved on to continue development and be better rendered/polished, DDoC is a very unusual game.
You see, it was conceived to take full control of the Wii motion controllers.
Disaster puts you in the role of a Rescue Team member (Cold Fear anyone?) who has to survive through various random natural disasters all taking place in the eponymous Day of Crisis, which seems to be the end of the world as far as natural disasters go.
Sort of like Disaster Report or American McGee presents: Bad Day L.A. in gameplay style. Only visually it is a much better looking and well defined game. Not a cheap "budget game" with a B-movie tone, but here a much bigger Hollywood style blockbuster feel from start to finish.

One Hell of a Story.

The story us about this International Rescue Team member, Raymond Bryce.
While one a pretty straightforward and routine rescue mission with his best friend and partner Steve Hewitt, the dormant volcano Mt. Aguilas unexpectedly erupts....

Ray and Steve try to make an escape while the lave starts to erupts all over the mountain.
The helicopter gets hit and crashes near them.

Steve gives Raymond his old compass and makes his buddy promise to look after his younger sister Lisa if something happened to him...
When suddenly, Steve falls into a crack on the side of the volcano.
Only one of them could escape...so Steve lets himself go off Ray's grasp and falls into the magma below.

One Hell of a Situation.

One year has passed.
Ray stills can't forgive himself for what happened to his friend back then.
As a matter of fact, he never actually saw Lisa since the accident.
Ray has left the Rescue Team and works now for a division of the FBI.

One day he is summoned to Blue Ridge City to help on a case.
A rogue military group called SURGE has stolen some nuclear weapons and kidnapped the seismologist Dr. Davis and his assistant, who happens to be Lisa Hewitt. Thanks to some previsions and a well timed mission, SURGE is able to threat the White House to be heard.

Ray takes on the whole terrorist group by himself so he can save Lisa as he promised Steve.
The chaos starts quickly, with flood over the city, with earthquakes, toxic air, tsunamis and lots of other situations escalating out of proportions!

One Hell of a Gameplay.

As you can see, the game has one pure Hollywood-style scenario.
Unlike most games of this genre (sort of), it is closer to a good 90s action movie than a cheesy B-mobie. Quite reminiscent of the likes of Die Hard, Speed or The Rock.
The dialogues (specially for a Japanese title) are great, well written and well acted. It makes the game stand out amongst the usual simpler productions.
The characters' likeable, well defined.

The game tries to re-create the terror and epic catastrophes that submerges you on a human scale.
Only in this game you play as someone trained just for these occasions.

You play Ray from a 3rd person p.o.v., Ray can jump and climb around the elements which serve as puzzles you have to navigate through.
The game uses a complex and different HUD from the other games. Kind of similar to Deadly Premonition in a way.
You have to take care of Ray's health but also his stamina (which is the hunger you have to take care with food you either found around or carry with you, or he'll start losing some health), his heart (running or exhaustion will cause loss of health as well) and finally his lungs (help stamina and health, needs to be cleared from smoke and the likes).

To replenish health and stamina, you will be able to use object, like First Aid Kits or Crackers, or simply break objects around you like in retro games such as Streets of Rage or Castlevania. Hey, it's just a game, right?

The gameplay will change from time to time, depending on Action Scenes or Exploration Sequences.
The game uses a lot of waggle in exploration sequences to help people. Putting bandages, perfoming CPR, helping someone move around, etc. comes quite simply and naturally with the Wii controllers.

One Hell of a Rail Shooter.

Action wise, the game uses a simpler route than your usual action-adventure games.
The shooting scenes employ a traditional rail shooter gameplay.
Quite fun, a joy to play through, they'll have you on the edge of your seat.

Highly replayable, they contribute to the cinematic feel of the game.
You can hide behind objects manually will Ray will go through the scenery.
To make them easier, you can uses experience points to either upgrade Ray's conditions (stamina, gun accuracy, health, etc.) or buy new/update old weapons. There's tons of details in the menu that uses a RPG-like system, straight from Monolith's experience with those.

There's also a scoring system for (the 22) levels, making a 2nd playthrough quite a different challenge.

It makes the whole thing a near perfect modern Arcade experience.

The game contain also some driving sequences which were, I admit, a pain in the a**.
The motion control being waaaaaaay too sensible. But they were so few, short and so far in-between, in the long scheme it wasn't that much a problem. (plus only 2 of them were really that complicated, the others being much more original and epic).

There's also some "Quick Time Events" here and there, but here they felt great and complimented the videos. (also you actually lose in-game health rather than the whole QTEs if you miss some actions).

One Hell of a Day.

The game doesn't feel like you're simply watching an action "movie" like many modern games with tons of CGi cinematics usually do.
Rather, it feels like an actual true game that simply puts you, the player, IN such movie.

Composer Yoshihiro Ike made a fantastic score for this experience.
Epic, very reminiscent of The Rock mostly, it really makes the whole game's atmosphere.

It's a fun experience, with some minigames perfectly integrated into the story/game, with a big accent on replay value thanks to the Survival Points and Battle Points you can earn to upgrade Ray, unlockable weapons, costumes and difficulty.

The game will feature some boss fights, that will usually spread around QTEs, rail shooting and some running around. Some SURGE members will return more than once, there's also an epic Bear boss scene!

The story and whole game just feels EPIC straight from start, which seems inspired by Cliffhanger.
One Hell Of A Day, indeed Ray!

One Hell of a Gimmick.

As a launch title (initially, when the development started), it really feels like the team behind the game had fun with this one, figuring how to best use these new controllers.
Holding the Wiimote like a steering wheel, shooting sequences to use the remote like a gun, etc.

Keeping an eye on Ray's health, stamina, heart and lungs and waggling around depending on your actions.

Running from the flood or lava by moving both the remote and Nunchuk.

All in all, it's a deep, rich, varied and unique experience that is highly enjoyable!

Overall, it's an amazing game!
A true Blockbuster experience.
Truly epic, through and through.
The game looks also great, with rich detailed backgrounds and realistic natural disasters perfectly captured. If the game had bigger resolutions (no thanks to the Wii) , it would simply be an amazing looking Next Gen game!

I particularly enjoyed Ray's dialogues and voice (portrayed by Mike Wilson).
The characters are also quite fun and memorable, Ray's probably the most badass recent video game protagonist I've seen - who deserves his place next to John McLane, Jack Traven or Jack Slater!

The levels are fun and challenging.
Disaster: Day of Crisis isn't impossible to go through, but neither really easy. It will require skills, patience and reflexes.
The ever-changing gameplays is part of the fun.

It is a long enough game, one you might want to play through or retry some earlier levels.
You have a Wii? Then it is a MUST HAVE for the system!

I give it:
 3 / 3 Quacks!

BestOf Judge Dredd - You betrayed the LAW!!

Here's one more fantastic moment/quote from the classic Judge Dredd movie.

I just love both Sly's epic shout and that other guy's face/answer to it!!

BestOf Judge Dredd - I AM THE LAW!!

With a Judge Dredd movie reboot/remake, what more fitting to have around today than....a clip from the Schneiderific original Stallone-starring Judge Dredd movie?

By the by, he is the law.

Anyone understood what Sly said there at the end??
It's been over 10 years and I still don't get it....

(à propos, I just adooooore these ol' school late-80s/early-90s violent action flicks)

Movie NEWS! new pics of DREDD

Here's another reboot.

They just released some new screenshots of the upcoming new Judge Dredd movie, simply titled DREDD.
It shows our main cast played by Karl Urban and Olivia Thirlby.

It's not as explicit as an actual trailer, but it does give an idea of the movie's tone.
Check those out:

Click on the pics for larger resolution!

I dunno for you, but it looks like Urban's wearing the too-big-for-his-head-helmet Sylvester Stallone used in the original back in 1995...
That or they planned to have another actor originally, with a much larger head and went ahead and built that helmet for another guy...
A bit awkward. I mean, check it back, above!

The movie's expected for a September 21st release date.

Marvel NEWS! AMAZING SPIDER-MAN Trailer

Sony Pictures just released the official trailer for the upcoming Spider-Man movie reboot.

Up until now I had my doubts about this whole thing (I'd rather see Marvel have the rights to Spidey back)..
Don't mistake me, I still think the tone is overly serious and the visual waaaay to gritty for the web-crawler.
But this is looking a bit better now.

Wise-cracking Spidey? Hunted by cops? A Spectacular villain?
Check this out:

I'm still not a big fan of this whole movie's casting, but it looks like Mark Webb did a great job!
This will be on July 3rd.
